There will always be people who don't want to pay
That is a fact of life. This doesn't mean that laws and taxes can't force them to pay into a system that provides a necessary service for the greater good. Socialized fire departments are a necessity to ensure proper/fair treatment for ALL!!!!!!!

2. This is why public services have to be paid for via taxes and not optional fees.
To protect ALL of the community.

15. no options
I agree. I don't give my sugar addicted child the option of a healthy dinner or a tasty candy bar. Why in the hell should these greedy folks be given the option of safety over cash? It doesn't work with the car insurance co.

4. The solution to this problem is absurdly simple
Edited on Wed Oct-06-10 09:54 AM by rocktivity
A county-wide fire or additional property tax that provides funding for the cities with fire protection services to provide them to the cities that don't.

:applause:

7. If they want to play the fee game then I say the guy up the road with the 2 million dollar house..
should pay more for his fire service than I do. And the factory over there should pay ten times the amount. Really, people have gone nuts. If my neighbor does not pay the fire department and I do, I will live next to a burned out hull and possibly lose my home during his fire. The folks who want to privatize this...well more than likely they have more than the average person and I say, be prepared to pay way more than you do now.

20. Good thought .....
The bigger the house...the more tax required....after all...it will take a lot more resources (manpower/Water) to put that baby out!!!!

21. I know, we could have municipalities assess the value of each property, and base the tax on that!

8. This is just my take...
In Red areas Republicans and Libertarians will vote out anyone who tries to make them pay taxes for a socialized fire department.

Hell, they don't even want socialized schools, etc.

They hate paying any kind of tax and don't seem to want to pay a fee for services either. They are NUTS!

and leave the rest of us to go about a civilized society!!!

23. Maybe the laws should be changed so that the counties can no longer decide.
We need to fight for fairness for all......including the libertarian geniuses that voted for this.

that keeps us together as a nation.

18. There will also always be people who can't. There will always be people
from out of town who still need emergency services, even though they've never paid a tax or fee where they happen to be. And all must still be taken care of, public safety must still be ensured.
