FOR THE MODS: Why can't we subscribe to threads?
I'm able to do this on even my local newspaper's website, where I can subscribe to a story thread and receive the posted comments by email. I can even respond to those comments by just replying from my email. This is a newspaper serving a community of only 24,000.

DU is a website with over 160,000 users and 50 million posts, I would think this would be within our capability by now.

Any chance this is forthcoming? Or is there a concern about lost ad revenue if people don't come to the site as often?

1. A better bet would be to email the Admins:

You may or may not get an answer.

2. Or wait a few days for the Ask The Admins forum to return

My guess is that the amount of email generated would be huge. A local paper, with just a few articles and readers who want to subscribe, is far different from hundreds of threads each day that can get hundreds of replies.

3. Also, not 160,000 users
That's the number of new accounts created...

Between trolls and sock puppets actual users is probably 20% of that number...

4. Just 'bookmark' them
Surely you check in every few days. The bookmark function is listed at the top left of each topic.

5. I'd settle for email alerts for replies to your own posts.
ATA will be open again in a few days, I'd ask there.

6. Could be useful, but there is 'My Recent Posts'
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=recent_posts

All your posts from the past 48 hours, with something noting how many replies to each post.

9. Oh I've used that for years lol.
Just saying that if there is an "email alert" function it should (or would) probably be limited to your own replies.
