Not paying the fire fee is similar to not paying property taxes in a town which funds a fire dept. |
|
Most Americans live in areas where everyone is covered by a fire department. The fire department is funded by taxes, much of which is from property taxes.
So, what happens if you don't pay your property taxes? Will the fire department let you house burn down?
No.
But the government will place a lien on your property. Then they will sell the house at a sheriff's sale to pay for the taxes owed.

1. True. We have a volunteer fire dept. It's having trouble getting recruits. Too many weekend home own |

weekend home-owners who come out from the city and wealthy summer residents.
Housing and cost of living is very high here. It's hard for regular folks to get by as it is. But to leave work to put out a fire- not easy for fire person or local employer.
That's what happens when you hollow out a community by encouraging home ownership for the wealthy and ignore the middle class- no one left to keep the community going.
My prediction is we go to a tax-payer funded Emergency and Fire Dept in next 20 years.

2. Do your FDs receive any county money? |
|
Our county collects excise taxes and splits it between our VFDs each year.
