"The Republican Wave Has Crested"
"The Republican Wave Has Crested"; 2 New Polls Show Significant 7 Point Gains for the Democrats

We have seen it recently in California where Brown and Boxer are opening up signifcant leads, in Washington and in Connecticut. Yes, the economy is making it a tough year, but new polling shows the Democrats coming back. The tradmed, however, is so invested in their wished-for Republican wave, that the news is not getting out. WE need to spread the word

Dems got the big MO!!! And the timing is perfect. Repubs blew their wad in August, when it wasn't nearly as effective.

because there's no other way Democrats would bother to get out and vote after they got screwed on health care reform.

5. People With Pre-Existing Conditions Do Not Feel They Were "Screwed" Nor Do
Edited on Wed Oct-06-10 12:16 PM by Beetwasher
People who can now be on their parents plans until they are 26. Nor people who no longer have lifetime limits. And on and on.

So sorry you're disappointed the Dems aren't going to get hammered this year. But go ahead, keep trying to dampen enthusiasm.

11. It did nothing for me
I have a pre existing condition. They will be forced to write a policy in 2014 when high risk pools are set up. They will not be forced to cover that pre existing condition, nor will they be forced to contain their costs. The policy will therefore become a gold plated accident policy, nothing more, for which they will charge as much as they possibly can get away with, with high deductibles and copays.

Yes, it probably helped a lot of younger people and healthier people and people who have coverage and have the bad luck to need to use it. However, it didn't do a damned thing for me or a lot of other people who are still shut out of having health insurance. We still have people looking at copays that prohibit them from using their insurance unless they're nearly dead. For profit insurance will still keep their ridiculously high overhead, much of it dedicated to figuring out ways to deny care. The lack of competing with any sort of state plan will keep them doing business as usual.

You can can the abuse, though. I'm delighted the teabaggers came along and elected enough nutcases in the primary to fire up some Democratic enthusiasm to keep the bastards out.

Just don't think this "reform" helped people like me. It did not.

20. You're right. It hasn't helped everybody yet.
Without it, it would help nobody. It did nothing for me, but I'm on Medicare, so my age was working for me. It didn't help my wife, either, who has a pre-existing condition and her insurance company just raised her rates this year. But, it helped a lot of people already, and will help more as more provisions kick in. Better than the alternative, I think, overall.

You are a liberal?

It hasn't made much difference for me, but if it helped someone, it's a step in the right direction.

32. Yes, but you have to realize people out in voter land
were hoping for an alternative to the bloodsuckers who have been leeching us dry and then killing us off, an alternative that would force the bastards to compete for the first time since they went for profit.

The point is that Democrats are by and large disgusted by how quickly Congress caved on the public option, which was the compromise with going single payer.

People are disgusted and feel sold out by a halfassed reform package that will have to be redone very soon. The Teabaggers are a godsend to the DNC.

16. I think we can thank the media for it.
Haven't we seen this movie before? One party or the other is way ahead and running strong until 2 or 3 weeks before the election and then the lead collapses. Quite frankly I don't think they ever were doing that well.

6. We shall see
I remember in 1996, if the election had been held in early October or September, Democrats may well have won back the House, but there was a big GOP counteroffensive in October after they decided to dump Bob Dole and focus upon keeping Congress. Which they did.

14. The repugs are and have been holding their collective
cash for a final push in October. Having been politically active for more than 30 years, I can truthfully say I've seen this on both sides many times. Now is not the time to be bragging about waves cresting. The polls always tend to close in September. Once the Independents break, the polls will open up again, and generally in the direction of challengers. We must work very hard until November 2nd to overcome that tendency. Do not rest, and do not believe that the worst is over. It isn't.

Those races never should have been races, and the fact we have to worry about them for a second shows the problem we have.

I'm worried about the money that will be flowing into Pennsylvania, Ohio and Wisconsin to shore up already big leads.

21. Some Of Us Predicted This Scenario
If I may toot my own horn:

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Beetwasher/92

"Granted, things ain't lookin' to great right now for Dems. But keep in mind, campaigns are only NOW getting into gear. Not very many people are paying attention yet. Things don't really start in earnest until after Labor Day.

I'm not saying things are definitely going to turn around, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

I believe we are seeing the Repubs peaking as we have seen at the end of August for the past few years. This has been the recent pattern. The GOP goes balls out in August, they are aided and abetted by the corporate media and things look bleak for the Dems. But ultimately it all turns out to be a lot of hype and by Nov. people are scratching their heads saying "Whuh happened?"."

This is not the analysis we are seeing from ostensibly more disinterested observers.

Holding the Senate seats CA, WA, and CT means that the election wasn't an absolute boondoggle, not exactly a reason to jump for joy.

In quite a few races, we are indeed ten points behind, and even in the ones where we're winning, we should still campaign that way.

This race is gonna be very, very close, and we're gonna see every dirty trick the GOP and their billionaire backers have got.
