Although if you start with any premise you can always find justification.
But then again, the US is not one bit different than all the other empires that riddle the history books.
This idea of exceptionalism is at the core of all "great" empires, it justifies the violence in the attainment of power and domination.
The Islamic world preaches exceptionalism as does China.
What is funny is that if we would have devoted time and energy into sane energy policies, like the kind Jimmy Carter was preaching about in term in office, the Islamic world would be completely left behind in the Dark Ages it struggled through for Centuries...
Same with China. if we hadn't outsourced our whole manufacturing lively hood to Mao and his minions, we would never be feeling the threat.
Funny, it will probably be Brazil that sits on the sidelines now like we did in the 1800's to emerge as the winner toward the middle of this Century.
