3. Too bad the homeowners couldn't bother in the two hours they reported it took for the fire to spread
from a burn barrel to the house.

8. Gotta a link (major news source) for that?

Maybe it took the FD 2 hours to get there! The structure could have been beyond saving. Remember,we're talking RURAL TN. Probably no hydrants-had to bring in tankers on skinny roads. JMO

7. My wife is a FireFighter.
She is a member (officer) of our Rural Volunteer Fire Dept.
She is fully trained, drives the trucks, pulls her weight, takes her turn on the Nozzel, and has earned the full respect of all the members of the department. Nobody worries when she has their back.

The department is supported by DUES from families living in the area, but also receives Federal/State funding from various grants, and Homeland Security. The department also receives great deals on used equipment through a State Funded program.
Even if somebody in the area had NOT paid their dues, they HAVE contributed through their Federal/State taxes.

When I told her about the FireFighters watching a home burn because of unpaid dues, she responded with three words, "Heartless Fucking Bastards."
The idea of "watching" someone's home burn because they didn't pay their dues is abhorrent.
She has put out many fires for people who haven't paid their dues without a second thought.
It is the RIGHT thing to do.

The all too common heartbreak of "Nothing we could do."

(Shhh!
She doesn't know I posted her picture.
She has been a member of DU since 2001, but only has about 35 posts.)

9. No doubt she wouldn't be caught dead saying...
"when i was a kid, i dreamed of becoming a firefighter so that I could save the lives of people who were paying customers."
