'Mentally unstable' shooter on the lam (Illinois/Indiana)

A man killed a construction worker and wounded two other people in what appeared to be a random shooting spree that began Tuesday morning near far south suburban Beecher.

The suspect, described as "mentally unstable,'' struck up conversations about honeybees before shooting the victims, Will County sheriff's spokesman Pat Barry said.

''We've got somebody who's very mentally unstable,'' Barry said.

The man was last seen heading north on Cline Avenue in Lowell, Ind., officials said. .........(more)

1. I like the way they always classify

the shooter as "mentally unstable". If someone is shooting up my neighborhood I'm probably going to just assume he's "mentally unstable" until proven otherwise.

2. I assume it is over drugs, around here.

We live in a "normal" middle class neighborhood, quiet Southern village, everyone in bed by 10 pm, if not earlier, type of place, and last night there was gunfire 3 blocks over, next to the Golf course.
VERY unusual.
but across the highway and back about half mile is a very well known drug area.
Usually all the gunfire at night is from there.
I am a bit discomfited, and waiting for the weekly newspaper tomorrow to see what happened.
Hoping this is not trend.
I guess settling drug scores could be listed as mentally unstable. Esp. since the shootings eventually result in arrests.
