Serious question: Why is Palin feature prominently on the RNC/GOP website's homepage?

I went over to the RNC website to research their platform on LGBT issues and gay civil rights specifically. I was stunned to see Palin on the homepage.

Palin cripples McCain's presidential campaign, scuttles her governorship of Alaska, makes countless gaffs in her public appearances, believes in exorcism and every other extreme fetish of Christianity -- and lands front and center as the RNC poster girl.

Nothing this symbolic happens by accident. What's the strategy?

2. The RNC has over-estimated Palin's popularity
She is being overshadowed by the new tea party darlings. When an idiot, quitter is the best they can do for a headliner, the RNC is in trouble.

9. Is Sarah heading for the big smack-down?
This may makes some sense for the midterms in places like OK, WY, AL, MS, GA, SC, etc. but they couldn't possibly do this in a presidential election. They'd get the asses handed to them.

10. Zoinks! From your lips to God's ears.
I think Mitt is going to hunt her campaign down like a wolf -- from his helicopter. Those powerful entitled white guys aren't going to play nice with her.

14. She is making a lot of friends and getting some political debts lined up a lot more than
Romney or any of the others. She is locking in the base and charming the media while the others are just watching.

5. Not because of her popularity...
"...(42%) say they would be less likely to vote for a candidate backed by Sarah Palin."

11. Exactly. That's why I'm trying to understand the symbolism/strategy.
Are you familiar with the old computer game, "Myst"? There's some sort of sequence of meaning here but I'm so lost...

13. Here is WHY:
Palin is the queen of the teabaggers. They adore her. There is a great divide between the Repubs and the teabaggers - Palin is their ONLY hope of bringing the teabaggers back into the repub. fold.
Good luck with that.
BTW, the RNC just dumped approx. $300,000 into Palin's attorney's bank account (Thomas Van Flein).
Palin hopping on the RNC bus did not come cheap.

15. IMO there is no distinction between teabaggers and republicans. They are one and the same.
The teabaggers are just louder , more ignorant republicans who can't spell and act out their racism more.

16. The plot thickens, $300,000 worth.
Now that makes a lot of sense to me, katanalori. If Miss "Mavrick" plays this right, she could weld a lot more power than she has right now.
