1. other things we do not see on the evening news

Demonstrators burn a U.S. flag during a protest in Baghdad May 19, 2007. Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets denouncing the frequent raids of the U.S. forces in Baghdad's Shi'ite neighbourhoods, protesters said. (Kareem Raheem/Reuters)

2. The Occupying military is just SO MUCH FUN!
My armless brother and I recall the many times we'd play hide-and-go-seek in the burned out wreck of a Stryker, or play kick-the-cranium with the skull of a recently slain contractor.

It was always fun going to market because not only did we not know what was available, we didn't know if we were going to come back! One time my brother lost both of his arms at the market.

Oh well. They say that Democracy is messy. My dad would show you his purple finger but he was killed last week for helping an American soldier.

3. Something else we didn't see on any "news" program:
May 14th is the official deadline for cable modem companies, DSL providers, broadband over powerline, satellite internet companies and some universities to finish wiring up their networks with FBI-friendly surveillance gear, to comply with the FCC's expanded interpretation of the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act.

All facilities-based broadband Internet access providers and providers of interconnected VoIP service have until May 14, 2007 to come into compliance with CALEA.

4. will our Dems undo this?
They aren't the majority in the Senate (Lieberman), I know. But will they start to resist the 'bads' who stole our democracy?

Our Dems seem so cooperative that it makes me wonder if they intend criminal charges after the Grand Potentate of Future Pardons is out from behind the curtain.

6. Nothing but silence from our party
I'm doubtful that they intend to charge the criminal even after he's out from behind the curtain.

7. We need an opposition party
Corporatism owns them both. And it seems they're watching.
I used to get all up in arms when I saw this crap coming in the 80's and am dumbfounded by the blind enablers in our former party today. Especially in the face of all this hard evidence and occurrences.

5. sheesh
I saw the flagburning picture yesterday. I don't know how many horror stories I've read, how many bodies of Iraqis blown to bits I've seen. I did not mean to suggest that all is sweetness and light. It's a nightmare.

I got this email this am with some nice pics - for a change. Thought maybe some would appreciate them. My first thought, of course, was "how many of those kids are still alive? How many of those soldiers?"

There IS a human side to this abomination, and kids like these ARE trying to muddle through, trying to have "normal" childhoods.

We ARE going to have horrific problems with thousands of PTSD cases, as another hot thread so aptly points out.

If anything these pics point out more than ever the horror of what we have done to their country - they were and are human beings with cute kids who like to seesaw. Scroll on down to the last pic.

Try, just for maybe two seconds, to just reflect on a glimmer here or there that maybe all is not lost - maybe in a generation or so Iraq can once again be a good place to live. For these kids sake.

8. I've seen pictures very much like those on the evening news.
They don't do one whit to change my opinion that we don't belong in Iraq.
