As I was chowing down on my 包子 (bao zi) and smoking my two apples hookah drinking Korean soju, I turned Rachel on my computer. . .and promptly choked. The Brainless Witch of the East is blowing platitudes out of her ass again. My father and I penned this to Rachel.
Let's summarize - EVERYTHING.
I am listening to your show by podcast wherein you have her 2006 Primary debate tape where she says China is a foe because "you are not allowed to be a Christian" and "will not allow you the freedom to read a Bible"...
I write this from my home in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, Peoples Republic of China. The city is pronounced Shur-juh-juang, with the accent on the first syllable.
Obviously, like the rest of the Tea Party, she does not know what she is talking
about. Here are the facts:
1. China will not stop you from practicing your faith. Prosletyzing is what is not allowed. That is why missionaries get into trouble - they come to China on Tourist visas and one of the conditions of a Tourist visa is to not prosletyze. They violate that condition, get into legal trouble and cry "They are violating my First Amendment rights..." not realizing that their First Amendment rights ended when they left the USA. Michael Savage was banned by the United Kingdom and he makes the same claim. I know several Born Again Christians here in China who practice their faith without fear and without interference.
2. China allows you to read the Bible. I can take you to a book store (a LEGAL book store) here in Shijiazhuang where you can buy a Bible if you wish. The Bible will be in Chinese, English or both - your choice. If it's "illegal" to read it, but not illegal to sell it, I see an argument that makes no sense.
3. The Chinese Government has no designs on the US Government. Why should they? If they destroy the USA it costs them billions of dollars in USA debt instriuments that will never be repaid. I would call that argument the "shoot yourself in the foot" statement.
4. Religion here is controlled by the Government - every house of worship must be registered with the Government. No Chinese government official says anything about what is said in that house of worship as long as it is not treason. I suspect the US Government would take the same position.
5. China does not force women to get abortions. While it is true China has a one-child policy and a second child will bring fines and public shame, I am told that after a third child the woman may be required to be sterilized. This is not anything I have been able to independently confirm or deny, it is just as much rumor as the rumors O'Donnell is passing off as facts.
It amazes me every time I hear some Tea bagger use a statement about China to whip up frenzy among their followers and that statement has absolutely no basis in truth. But what do I know.... I'm only here in China - but they know more than I do.
Sadly, Teabaggers presented with these facts will not change their narrow, empty minds.
