1. It's a heck of a metaphor

I haven't participated much (if at all if I remember correctly) in any of the threads. And I marvel at the numbers of them. But the reality is that it is a great "morality play" of sort. It pits fundamental issues of fair play, economic theory, governmental theory, and the general "small government/big goverment issues" into a very simple context.

Think of it as the functional equivalent of "the number of fairies on the head of a pin" kind of argument, with real fairies and real pins.
