"We had been on the list, and we’d always paid the fee, but this year we just put it off a little bit too long,” she said. “We’ve got to take some of the blame for this, because we weren’t on the list"...................................

“There wasn’t anything we could do, we just had to stand and watch it, and get out of the way because there were gun shells in the house,” said Mrs. Cranick. “I got on the phone and talked to the 911 operator, and she said she was trying her best to get crews out there but she wasn’t having any luck.” .............................

She said her grandson and a few of her neighbors had tried to put out the fire before she got home using a water hose, but a part of the garage that was burning fell on the water hose and damaged it.

Mr. Cranick said that Charlie Reams, the adjacent property owner, called and requested the fire department for his own property and for the Cranicks, saying they didn’t care what it would cost to come out and put out the flames at his neighbor’s house, but assistance was denied to the Cranicks.

Mr. Cranick said that when the shed caught fire, it scared the dogs that were in the house, and they went into the garage and became trapped. .............................
