Abu Gonzales' push on kids' safety is a faux front.
Other threads have already mentioned how a resignation by Abu would be incredibly traumatic to the president and vice president. Any hearing on a replacement AG would bring up everything that the GOP majority spent four years hiding from or ignoring.

Abu has never been and never will be a true attorney general. To the contrary, he remains the most trusted aide(r) and abettor of a criminal clan's most criminal member, W. It is inconceivable that Gonzales would quit on his own. Despite all the pressure from Democratic congresscritters and senators, they view them as the enemy. unfortunately for the GOPers seeing their potential to hold on to their seats, the White House doesn't give a damn about them either. Even if Hagel and others see the light and speak truth to power, they have forgotten one key lesson about George the Junior. He demands loyalty above all else, however, with him, loyalty is a one way street.

So, that brings us to Abu's meeting with the 93 AGs, the PR campaign he is pushing about kids' safety, sexual abuse prevention, etc. - IT IS ALL A LIE.
I will repeat: IT IS ALL A LIE. Gonzo cares as much for the safety and sexual protection as the leadership of the Catholic Church - they both bring up in self interest, and to confound their enemies, to confuse the public and take attention from real issues.

Abu's memory problems? Hah. By all accounts, he has a very fine memory. It just happens to be extraordinarily convenient. Bush was telling the truth when he said he was proud of the job Abu did in his testimony. Because by their standards, it was perfect. Perfectly clouded and without detail.

He repeatedly lied and misdirected every time he spoke to congress and the American people. If he has become a lighting rod, that also serves Bush's purpose. He will keep Abu in office AND all attention remains on him, and not on the White House.

My guess is he stays til the bitter end.
