SARASOTA - Governor Charlie Crist cancels out on a group of Suncoast students, as they join other elementary school kids around the world trying to set a world record.
First graders at Sarasota's Alta Vista Elementary School thought they had an ace in the hole. Governor Crist was scheduled to read with them, but when he canceled out today. The principal says the teachers were actually a lot more disappointed than the kids.
"No they weren't because their focus is becoming readying every day is special for them," says Principal Barbara Shirley.
As a part of "Read for the Record" program, kids world wide are all reading the same book "The Snowy Day" and trying to beat last year's record when 2 million people were all reading the same book at the same time.
The purpose is to promote literacy language and social skills.
