yep my weekly pester the critters....
By the way, several people have said to avoid email any longer and send these by mail to their LOCAL office (Anthrax if you want to pry, and how it takes over six weeks for these to go to the actual office in DC)

May 20, 2007
There are several issues that I’d like to cover here. One of them is the 2008 election. Watching the USA scandal I must say I am pleased you are going after Gonzales, but....who replaced the eight US Attorneys? These are people who were engaged in caging lists and other highly illegal activities. These are folks who will not play by the rules, but by what is needed to establish that permanent Republican majority. Yes, these folks are loyal to the Republican Party not the Constitution, and they know they cannot win in a clean election. Here in San Diego we have the tools in place at the Registrar of Voters. Person number one (the Current Registrar) is a loyal Republican, and his deputy was at ground zero in Cuyahooga county and did dirty his hands during the mess of 2004, not a mess usually covered by our press. You may want to ask Chairman Conyers about it, since he did go research it, or read Armed Mad House by Greg Palast. Nothing is done about this, ahem small problem...well I will not guarantee that you will get reelected, mostly who counts the votes, or for that matter that we will win the White House. Again, who counts the votes. Anybody paying attention has seen this movie before, most recently in places like Mexico under the PRI and the Soviet Union. Yep you can vote, but we don’t have to count it. In fact Joseph Stalin put it very succinctly. It does not matter who votes, but who counts the votes.
Second issue: It is disgraceful that the President believes that a three percent raise for troops is not necessary. His abuse of the troops knows no bounds, but as a wife of a retired Navy Chief I can tell you things are strained in military families. These days even Junior Officers are on food stamps and going to local food pantries. Think about it. When President Bush Senior left we had many lower ranking enlisted men on food stamps. With President Clinton’s the pay went up sufficiently when a few were on food stamps. Now we have Junior Officers and many an enlisted man on food stamps. I guess he is punishing his employees, who just cannot leave, by not paying them. After all they are loosing the Republican’s war. And yes, the President is that shallow.
In the meantime we have Mercs, yes that is the correct term, making more in a day in some cases than the average trooper will make in a year. Oh and Halliburton is charging one hundred dollars a pop to wash the laundry of troops... not to mention that the logistics chain is still highly dysfunctional. Those mercs, just in case you have not studied history, will turn against their employer the moment they get better pay from enemies of these Republic. Why Machiavelli counseled against hiring mercs. I will counsel canceling all those contracts too. The other choice of course it to bring the pay of troops to the same level of Mercs, or if they are truly equivalent to our troops, lower their salaries to that of our troops.
Now here is what Machiavelli wrote on Mercs, “Mercenaries and auxiliaries are useless and dangerous; and if one holds his state based on these arms, he will stand neither firm nor safe; for they are disunited, ambitious and without discipline, unfaithful, valiant before friends, cowardly before enemies; they have neither the fear of God nor fidelity to men, and destruction is deferred only so long as the attack is; for in peace one is robbed by them, and in war by the enemy.” (Nicholo Machiavelli: The Prince, CHAPTER XII: How Many Kinds Of Soldiery There Are, And Concerning Mercenaries) I will make this plain, using Mercs, as in Blackwater, and other organizations is not only foolish, but a threat to our future national security. Oh and we do not need Blackwater in Potrero either, or anywhere else in California. They are corrosive, not a legal business, regardless of what they tell you... and NOT protected under the Geneva Convention either... or liked by the United Nations. There are many reasons, chiefly they need war, war is good for business... Dwight Eisenhower warned us against this military industrial complex as well, in the farewell address where he told us: In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. Blackwater is an extension, as well as the Rand Corporation.
Third issue: Yes I am going to sound like a broken record, but we need impeachment. You do not want to start with the President, fine, Gonzales is a prime target. This lack of movement in what the people of the US are demanding will cost you, when elections come. Why? More and more people are agreeing with this idea that the parties essentially are two faces of the same coin, and that we have descended to a government controlled by the corporations. Oh, political scientists have a word for it: Fascism.
We cannot trust the elections and legislation even now is written by who gives money. Well time to publicly finance all elections and return some trust to the system. As a country we have been here before, the Railroad Barons of the 1880s for example, and it took political courage to return that political power to we the people. I wonder if our current crop of politicos has the courage needed to do what we the people sent them to do in DC, instead of what big pharma, for example, wants our politicos to do.
The clock is ticking...
Sincerely
