Practicing Yoga is bad says Southern Baptist leader
Southern Baptist leader on yoga: Not Christianity
By DYLAN LOVAN, Associated Press Writer

Associated Press October 7, 2010 10:14 (10-07) 10:14 PDT Louisville, Ky. (AP) --

A Southern Baptist leader who is calling for Christians to avoid yoga and its spiritual attachments is getting plenty of pushback from enthusiasts who defend the ancient practice.

Southern Baptist Seminary President Albert Mohler says the stretching and meditative discipline derived from Eastern religions is not a Christian pathway to God.

Mohler said he objects to "the idea that the body is a vehicle for reaching consciousness with the divine."

"That's just not Christianity," Mohler told The Associated Press.

------------------------------------

He said his view is "not an eccentric Christian position."

Other Christian leaders have said practicing yoga is incompatible with the teachings of Jesus. Pat Robertson has called the chanting and other spiritual components that go along with yoga "really spooky." California megachurch pastor John MacArthur called yoga a "false religion." Muslim clerics have banned Muslims from practicing yoga in Egypt, Malaysia and Indonesia, citing similar concerns.

1. That's funny coming from people who keep their heads shoved up their own assholes.

On Edit:

To make it clear, I'm talking about the ones who think "The Bible" is about ten passages from Leviticus, modified slightly to fit their warped perspective. I know actual Baptists who are decent people, but when you have to add the "Southern" prefix, it gets ugly.

5. Ugly religious men also tried to ban music and musical instruments,
singing, dancing, and any other joyous activity of human beings. I often think they're only happy when they think we're all more miserable than they are.

Mohler can go fuck himself. He's responsible for his ignorance, I'm not.

11. Also make-up, cards, women cutting their hair, slacks, root beer, etc.
IOW, if it looks like fun to Southern Baptists, it's a sin. That's what I learned while being held captive(raised) by Baptists as a child.

6. Yo Ga means "the scientific search for God", or similar.
Meditation and associated practices shut down the body's senses, which are a distraction from the spiritual side. "The monkey cage", as most call it, can be quieted through these training exercises, at which point, one begins to become aware of the spiritual side, and to hopefully develop it.

Or as the Christian Bible so aptly puts it, "Be still, and know that I am God".

10. And I bet the yoga gang doesn't think much of the Southern Baptists
Personally, I think the yoga gang should start knocking neighborhood doors to invite Southern Baptists to come and do headstands 20 minutes a day

14. Jesus of Nazareth was a Yogi. That's how he learned to perfom "miracles".
Edited on Thu Oct-07-10 04:53 PM by KittyWampus
Edit- in Patanjali's "Yoga Aphorisms" we are taught the various manifestations of power that one achieves as one becomes fully enlightened. Each step is exactly similar to what Jesus was said to be able to do.
