Does Newt Even Know Who Is Getting Food Stamps in America?
Edited on Thu Oct-07-10 05:11 PM by McCamy Taylor
According to Newt Gingrich, the Democratic Party is “the party of food stamps.” Does Newt Gingrich actually know anything about the food stamps program? Probably not. If he did, he would realize that the reddest state in the union, Texas, has more folks on food stamps than any other state. 3.7 million Texans need government assistance to eat. And the number has risen by almost 800,000 since last year---the largest growth in recipients for any state.

http://www.statehealthfacts.org/comparemaptable.jsp?ind=651&cat=1

So, according to Newt Texas is the most Democratic state!

Does Newt know (or care) that folks living in rural areas are more likely to need government help to put food on their tables? In 2005---before the recession---people who lived in the country were twice as likely to receive food stamps as those living in cities.

http://www.carseyinstitute.unh.edu/publications/PB_foodstamps_05.pdf

So, according to Newt rural America is more Democratic than urban America .

Does Newt know that the elderly as more likely to receive food stamps than younger adults? Does he know that children are also more likely to need Supplemental Nutritional Assistance in order to get the food they need in order to grow? Does Newt realize that the working poor receive more food stamps than folks on welfare?

http://www.fns.usda.gov/ora/menu/Published/SNAP/FILES/Participation/2008CharacteristicsSummary.pdf

According to Newt, the Democratic Party is the party of the elderly, children and hard working (but struggling) Americans.

Does Newt know that unemployed Americans who have run out of unemployment benefits are one of the fastest growth groups in the food stamp program? The New York Times reported on this, and being a food stamp expert, I am sure Newt must have read the story.

“I went from making $180,000 to relying on food stamps,” she said. “Without that government program, I wouldn’t be able to feed my children

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/03/us/03foodstamps.html?pagewanted=all

Newt says that if you are unemployed, the Democratic Party has your back.

Does Newt know that the number of Americans using food stamps steadily rose during the Nixon presidency and the Bush Sr. presidency then declined during the Clinton administration? Does he know that food stamp use rose again during the Bush/Cheney administration? Doesn’t that make the GOP the party of poverty and food stamps?

http://www.urban.org/UploadedPDF/411810_SNAP_and_the_recession.pdf

Since Newt obviously does not know shit about food stamps, maybe he is also unaware of the fact that more white folks live in poverty in this country---and receive aid for the poor, like food stamps---than members of any other racial group. These studies have been around for literally decades.

All of this raises an interesting question. Does Newt know anything? Or is he 100% blind ambition, struggling to become politically relevant again in a country he does not even understand? Maybe Newt should go back to school and let the people who really know what the hell is happening in this country run the government.

1. The Gingrinch lives in a fantasy land where rich white people are oppressed by poor minorities.
The opposite is reality, but hey, we're talking about a Republican moron here.

2. All Newt knows is that he doesn't need food stamps
But he does receive capital gains on his investments. So for Newt, food stamps are bad, and cuts in the capital gains tax are good. And in Newt's mind, what's good for Newt is good for America. That's why he gets to go on teevee all the time, and you don't. Because Newt speaks for the other millionaires on the teevee.

6. You mean check bouncing Newt doesn't approve of food stamps? Really?
Some of you may remember the House Banking scandal back in the early 90's. Newt almost lost the 1992 re-election because of 22 BOUNCED CHECKS.

Guess it all depends on who benefits from the government subsidies, hey Newt?

If you'd like to do a little extra reading on Mr. 2012 wannabe, go to realchange.org and look up Newtie's skeleton closet.

11. Food stamps have always been of benefit to farmers and grocers.
Seems like an exellent way to stimulate the economy. Rules were recently changed so that Farmers Markets could accept food stamps and that has provided a welcome revenue stream for those businesses.

I hope your post goes viral- it's so clearly breaks through the symptomatic hypocrisy, propaganda, simplistic stereotyping, empty sloganeering, and pathological lies of the repukes politics that if people really understood this ONE issue- they might wake up and kick those assholes out of congress and never vote for them again. Great research and post! Please don't let this die... keep it going!!!

16. This shouldn't be.
All those people who can't feed themselves - it's just not right. What are we doing so wrong in this country, that we have so much money and still so many people who can't afford to eat?

That aside, I've noticed something about Newt. He's always wrong - always. Literally any time I've heard him say anything it has been at odds with reality.

17. Thank you...........
I would not say I always "enjoy" your posts, but I always find great interest in reading them. Thanks for putting forth the effort to keep us all more in the know. I was looking in some boxes in my attic last weekend and came across some bumper stickers from 1992. My two favorite seem to fit the bill in 2010 as well as they did in 1992. ' THE ROAD TO HELL IS....PAVED WITH REPUBLICANS'. and the ever popular 'REPUBLICAN SATAN'. Newt is only answering the call of his "master".

What Newt says:

"The Democrats are the party of food stamps".

What your average Teabagger hears:

"You know who gets food stamps? N****rs! The Democrats are the party of n****rs!"

Newt thinks he is one of the chosen ones. He doesn't care if the "little people" die. Would seem to me that is his goal.

25. A little known statistic ...
For every dollar spent on Food Stamps, generates $1.84.

How you ask?

Money spent on food filters up the chain of supply.
The store has to reorder more food, along with the supplier, distributor,
and finally the manufacturer/grower.

Also, the money spent on food stamps frees up the really dollars that
the family has to pay other bills.

Food stamps are one of the most efficient way to kick start an economy.

When a RW-Nut tells me, that we should give tax breaks to the wealth because
when have you ever heard of a poor person creating jobs?

When I explain that if the money goes to the top (i.e. wealthy) they invest or
look at other countries to create jobs.

If the money goes to the average citizen (you, me, and others in the middle class)
we tend to spend it to pay bills, buy food and other necessities, and that stimulates
the economy, which causes businesses to start hiring again.

This goes waaaaay over their head

27. Newt & his ilk are always wrong, but never in doubt
It kills me that this adulterous hypocrite is now being held up as some pseudo-intellectual whose every word the media now thinks should be taken seriously. I guess RW tools just have to stay in the political wilderness for a few years before the "liberal" media decides to resurrect them.
