Biden: 'You’re the dullest audience I’ve ever spoken to'

Vice President Joe Biden got a laugh from his audience at a Wisconsin fundraising event Thursday when he tried to rile the crowd about the economic collapse of 2008.

“We want to reward people who manufacture things in the United States, in Wisconsin, not to take them overseas to China and to other countries!” he said to a silent room at the event for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Tom Barrett, according to a White House pool report.

He continued, saying, “You’re the dullest audience I’ve ever spoken to," at which point he got applause and laughs. "Do you realize how many jobs Wisconsin lost? It’s staggering!"

Biden and President Obama have made frequent campaign stops in recent weeks in an attempt to jolt Democrats who are lagging Republicans in voter enthusiasm measures, in part due to the slowing pace of the economic recovery under the administration's watch.

Biden's appearance Thursday was in the state capital of Madison, which hosted a crowd of 26,000 to see President Obama speak at rally targeted at young voters the week prior.

1. *cringe* Even though this was a joke the audience loved, watch it become the New Biden Gaffe!

3. It was pretty clearly a joke and I'd be surprised if anyone except the wingnut media
try to spin it as anything but. As Joe's miscues go, this is about as minor as they come.

8. Yeah, I should have said it would be the whack media who would take this out
of context and scream about it. They've gone after minor miscues before with gusto. :grr:

How? When? I know that we are supposed to feel all warm and fuzzy on hearing this rhetoric, but I'm afraid I'd forget to clap at the applause line too. Things are moving too slowly. Small businesses are tanking and outsourcing doesn't seem to abate. What am I missing?

I know the small business stimulus bill passed, do enough people know what that means to the average guy on the street? Does anybody?

7. Clearly things are not moving fast because of party opposition from the Pesky GOPers... Party of NO
and then they trumpet no jobs, etc...

Its brainwashing by stealth...

9. I know, opi. I'm not pointing fingers or placing blame, just reflecting reality.
I don't expect a quick fix politically or economically. It took a long time to drag our economy to the brink of collapse, it will take at least as long to pull it back to solid ground. And we will be redefining and repositioning as we go.

That doesn't help the mom and pop shop who closed their doors last week because taking on more debt only means owing more, without a guarantee of a better future. It doesn't help the 99ers who have run out of jobs to apply for and run out of ambition to try. We are hurting out here. Verbal bandaids won't help. The applause line rings hollow to me, as it evidently did with Biden's immediate audience.

10. Minor gaffe made big by GOP exaggeration and spin to divide...:o)
Despite opposition from the GOPers...Obama made significant strides in fixing the Nation

Woulda been faster if there was concensus but alas...

The GOPers are full of gas
