My "Obamacare" Story
After going over my medical history and explaining to my new doctor why I haven't had health insurance for the last 10 years, I told her that after the health care bill passed, Costco started offering low cost health insurance without preexisting condition restrictions.

To that, she replied, "At least one good thing came from Obama."

I laughed and we moved on.

What would you have done?

2. Told her I need a sane doctor
It's just something I'm funny about.

And what has Costco done, I haven't heard.

6. Partnered with Aetna to offer affordable policies to members.
I got the most expensive plan at $240/mo.

8. Wow!
Do you mind me asking how old you are and what your pre-existing is. That is a pretty good price for a pre-existing policy, especially since it isn't even legally required for adults yet.

10. 46 and Graves Disease
The policies with higher deductibles and co-pays were a lot less expensive.

15. The insurance is only being offered in four states right now
I am hoping that Costco will expand the program. It would be a godsend for us.

Congratulations on your new health insurance!

17. I didn't know it was only in 4 states.

I hope they expand it, then, for your sake, Missy Vixen, and other people that need it.

Thanks

4. You did fine.
Did you have a good rapport before that? I'm a bit surprised that your doctor allowed her personal politics to enter into the discussion, so I'm nonplussed. I don't know that I'd opt for a follow up appt. with that particular physician, but that's my own personal bias.

9. We did have a good rapport before and after that.
And she was highly recommended. I wasn't surprised, but I was a little disappointed. I won't hold it against her though.

5. I didn't know that about Costco!
Cool! Thanks for the tip! And fie on your doctor. What is it about Republicans that makes them so inappropriately ready to tell you all about their affiliation (or assume that you'll agree with them)? That's not very professional of her.

19. I may have goaded her by referring to the HRB as "Obamacare".
I see now that Costco is offering health insurance in only 4 states: Georgia, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Texas. And they do have coverage restrictions. It may also have nothing to do with the HRB, that is my assumption.

7. Me... I would have said nothing and remained expressionless
hoping it would create an awkward silence. Then maybe she would think about how unprofessional that was.

11. that's cool that Costco is offering insurance
Maybe more places will follow suit. The idea of restricting health insurance to those with no pre-existing medical issues is crazy and flies in the face of everything that we have learned about preventive medicine.

that I had gender reassignment surgery once upon a time, and Costco/Aetna knew about it prior to accepting my application.

22. I would have mentioned that my premiums are 30% higher,
that my copays have gone up as well, and that my deductibles are 4 times higher under Obama Care. All at a time when my salary has been repeatedly cut, and my profession held out as a scapegoat by Obama's education deform policies.
