Getting people with D next to their name in office -- whether they're liberal, conservative, or somewhere in between didn't matter, as long as they had that D. That's his legacy and it was all smiles in 2006, but less so later when all of those people started casting votes/enacting policies.

It's an approach. Not one that's popular on DU, but an approach nonetheless. DUers seem to be more fond of the DeMint style -- have only ideologically reliable people on your side in congress, even if you're in the minority. That's an approach too and I can certainly see where they're coming from -- but I'd tend to side a bit more with Rahm, since conservative Dems will vote the liberal position at least some of the time. That's better than nothing, IMO, especially in districts where the voters lean towards conservatism and the options are a conservative Dem or a rank and file Republican. Congress is a numbers game and though the thoroughly liberal Pelosi catches flak frequently, she's somebody who also recognizes that and that's a big reason why she's speaker.

22. Having been the Treasurer of the Cuyahoga county Democratic
Party for 8 years in the 90's, I can tell you that is the approach that is used most often across the country.

You have to be able to prove that you are electable by being able to raise money. that is first and formost.

I think he has an interesting and rhythmic name. It kind of flows off the tongue, although I don't know from where else it would flow.

27. I like Rahm
His appointment told Republicans that the Obama Administration wasn't one to be fucked with. Although it was watered down, we did get healthcare passed at a time in our country where corporations can buy elections. Let us not sell short that monumental accomplishment.
