How would you try to hold on to as many seats in the House and Senate as possible if you controlled the party?

1. Seriously?
Put up bills like "Make February 5th a national holiday honoring veterans" and "give all the children of firefighters ponies" and "raise minimum wage to $15 an hour" and watch the republicans beat that shit down like it was on fire.

Rinse, repeat. :D

2. I would get Dr. Dean involved
He seems to have a better knack for that kind of strategy than nearly anyone else out there.

3. That was half of my thinking behind my post
1. Call them "the party of no."

2. Put up stuff they can't vote against without looking like assholes.

3. Watch them shoot it down.

4. Say "See? The party of no at work."

5. Repeat as needed.

5. Get on the offense
It doesn't need to be a pure "attack," all they need to do is put together simple facts and show republicans contradicting them. Make them look stupid by just showing how far from reality some assertions are.

6. Nationwide Commercials called "Straight Blue"
(no offense to the GLBT) It would request that everyone vote straight Democrat ticket. The commercial would show quotes of all the wackos from the tea-baggers saying their craziest shit. I would include W and Boner saying that they are the same republican party and that they have not changed. Then I would say something like, these are the people who want to take their country back. At the end I would have the voice over say "They are asking you if they can go to Washington and bring back all of the Bush policies, on November 2 you can tell them" and end with Boner's "Hell no you can't!"

7. Hammer the Republicans on cutting and
privatizing SS and Medicare. Remind them how many jobs the GM and Chrysler bailout saved and how the US auto industry is making a comeback. Don't hide from the Stimulus remind people one third of that was a tax cut and how the unemployment extensions and COBRA subsidies kept millions of people from losing their homes and health care. Give them examples of the jobs the Stimulus provided and how much worse it would have been without it. Don't run from health care, put people in ads that were able to keep health care because of the HCR. I think people misread the polls on the HCR bill, like they would say the majority of the people were against the bill. The thing of it was the usual 30% is always against everything and the other 30% were disappointed that it didn't go far enough.

8. At this point?
With Republican momentum and not much time left . . . standard October stuff. Press the deep-pocketed donors, hit the ground game hard, bring out the big guns, work to turn out the reliable base. On message, there's not much that can be done at this point, though there's some soul-searching in order for 2012. I think now it's all about the trench warfare.

11. Get a white guy in as President..
...as soon as possible.

Because you can do that in a hurry, but fixing the economy takes time.

And the Great National Freakout we're seeing is about 50% the one, and 50% the other.

12. build a time machine
Too little, too late.

Justified or not, right or wrong, the fact is simply that the White House and the Congressional Dems have alienated a large part of their base. And a few weeks of last minute spin isn't going to change that.

16. Lean to the Left
I want to see the Democratic Party embrace an openly progressive / liberal stance and speak directly to the base.

I want to see our candidates call out the Republicans and debate them directly on the issues. In a straight debate on issues, without the mudslinging about former carer action, the Democrats will win hands down.

Think "Allen Grayson".

18. Be bold and defend what was done as strongly as possible - make clear
the GOP's total opposition to anything that would help the American people, and at the GOP's responsibility for the unfunded wars and thus the huge deficit. I would also point out GOP lies-that alone should be easy enough.

I'm listening to a Sestak ad right now-states that Toomey worked to export US jobs to China and that he should run for Senate...in China. It's a great ad!

Democrats are too timid, and need to hit the GOP hard and often.
