The Waste, Fraud And Abuse in Iraq And Afghanistan Must be Seen To Be Believed
unhappycamper note: Since the ‘Pentagon’ (Righthaven LLC?) has ‘requested’ that I only post one paragraph from articles on Army Times, and Airforce Times, I’ve decided to give ya’ll an unhappycamper summary of the article and a link to the OP. To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.

To read the article in the military's own words, you will need to click the link.

Read all about Fair Use here. It sure is beginning to smell like fascism.

unhappycamper summary of this article: The feeding frenzy continues and spreads to Afghanistan. We are passing out money hand over fist and Congress slides up to the trough. Oink.

As war winds down in Iraq, so does U.S. construction, influence

He also says that despite several recommendations, the U.S. government has not established a single office to oversee the myriad of projects, which could foreshadow similar reconstruction troubles for Afghanistan.

1. If we spent the money on infrastructure, social services, and education... we would
be better off as a nation.. and by leading as an example, rather than brutte force, we would diminish the "terrorists" numbers. But for nearly 10 years now, we are creating a negative image and have become the terrorists best recruitment tool.

6. that's the truly ironic part...
our nation crumbles while the "nation building" in the middle east has gotten a blank check for almost a decade now...

2. The vultures of capitalism
USAID, the independent federal agency that assists with rebuilding efforts in foreign countries, will be the main reconstruction player in Iraq after 2011. The agency has spent $7.7 billion on rebuilding Iraq since 2003, and its annual budget of $328 million is expected to continue, said Alex Dickie, the agency’s Iraq mission director.

“We’re here for at least 15 years,” Dickie said. “We’re in it for the long haul.”

...

At the provincial level, there are signs that Iraqi officials are spending their own money, according to Iraqi contractors like Mithaq al-Fahal.

Mithaq has made millions off U.S. reconstruction projects in Iraq, U.S. military officers who work with him say. Earlier this month, his company, Saker al-Fahal, opened a renovated elementary school and the new vocational women’s institute. CERP money paid for the contracts, $199,000 for the renovation and an additional $245,000 for the sewing and computer school.

3. You keep spreading the lie that the Pentagon runs Army Times
They do not and you've been told about this numerous times.

Gannett news service own The Army Times, Navy Times etc as well as USA Today. It is a private company, not a government office. Yet, you keep lying and using it as an excuse to cry about fascism.

Gannett has nothing to do with Stars and Stripes but you falsely imply Gannett's request for you use only 1 paragraph somehow applies to use of S&S articles. Gannett has no ability to tell you how much or how little of a S&S article you may or may not use because they do not own S&S.

Why do you persist in re-stating manifestly untrue claims that can be dismissed with a 30 second google search?

5. Google
seriously

Waste and fraud in ANY government program is a travesty, even for those programs we can support, i.e. welfare fraud hurts those who genuinely deserve help.

But posting outright bogus statements that can be disproven with a 30 second google search gives critics the power to dismiss anything you say as the nonsense of a person who can't get even basic facts straight.

How does that help your cause?
