Glenn Beck "He Blew My Mind" says Freeway Shooter Who Was on his way to kill at Tides Ctr
Edited on Fri Oct-08-10 04:43 PM by RamboLiberal
On Monday, the progressive watchdog group Media Matters for America will release an interview it conducted with Williams in which he explains that Glenn Beck's Fox News show "blew his mind." From the interview:

MEDIA MATTERS: When you talk about how conservative values have been lost in this country you were talking before about the liberal media. You were saying maybe Fox was the exception. You think Fox is worthwhile?

BYRON WILLIAMS: Well, I'm not gonna say anyone is worthwhile. But (unitelligable) I would've never started watching Fox if it wasn't for the fact that Beck was on there. And it was the things that he did, it was the things he exposed that blew my mind. I said, well, nobody does this.

Here's how RW Examiner are spinning - they had their own interview with Williams.

Did Fox talk show host Glenn Beck and the right-wing media push the I-580 gunman, Byron Williams, to violence? No, says Williams in an exclusive jailhouse interview with the Examiner.com. He also said he felt forced to act out in violence because Beck and others in the right wing media were not fighting hard enough against organizations like the left-leaning Tides Foundation.

-----

When asked directly if he knew about the Tides Foundation before Beck mentioned it, Williams replied, “Yes, I already had all that information that he used on one or two of his programs. I already knew all of that stuff. And to me it was more of a confirmation of what I already knew. “

When asked if it hadn’t been for Glenn Beck and Fox News, whether he still would have planned violence, Williams said that it was because Fox News didn’t do enough to pursue the political left that he became frustrated and felt like violence was the only answer.

The freeway gunman said, “I’m actually mad at Fox. I’m mad at them because they go on to something else. It’s like they drop the issue and it lands on a shelf somewhere to collect dust. And that’s what’s happening to the truth. It’s going out and collecting dust. I say you’re not going to let these people get away with this stuff. You can’t let them get away with it. So this was my action because of Fox’s neglect.”

H'mmm - and Becky will be off getting medical tests as this news breaks next week. Convenient timing there Beck and a way to divert this off you and have many in the MSM talking about your "illness" instead of they way you dog whistle to the looney tunes like Williams in your audience. I bet if the FBI BAU talked to or researched a number of these RW'ers who have been in the news recently with guns, bombs, etc. we'd find a few more members of your audience.

2. I'm sure not - Beck was the only one out there even talking
about Tides in RW looney land. I hadn't even heard of Tides till I, other DU'ers & bloggers & a few in the media started researching this and who the hell was talking about them.

A week after the incident, the mystery was solved. "Tides was one of the hardest things that we ever tried to explain, and everyone told us that we couldn't," Fox News host Glenn Beck told his radio listeners on Monday. "The reason why the blackboard" -- the prop Beck uses on his TV show to trace conspiracies -- "really became what the blackboard is, is because I was trying to explain Tides and how all of this worked." Beck accuses Tides of seeking to seize power and destroy capitalism, and he suggests that a full range of his enemies on the left all have "ties to the Tides Center." On Monday, he savored the fact that "no one knew what Tides was until the blackboard."

For good measure, Beck went after Tides again on Fox that night. And Tuesday night, Wednesday night and Thursday night. That's on top of 29 other mentions of Tides on Beck's Fox show over the past 18 months (two in the week before the shootout) according to a tally by the liberal press watchdog Media Matters. Other than two mentions of Tides on the show of Beck's Fox colleague Sean Hannity, Media Matters said it was unable to find any other mention of Tides on any news broadcast by any network over that same period. Beck declined comment.

8. It got in the news when Kerry was running for office. His wife
is a big donor to the organization which does a lot of great work. The Right tried to say she was 'channeling money to other nefarious orgs through the Tides Foundation'. The usual smear campaign but all the usual suspects turned into another ACORN campaign at the time. If he knew about it, he probably was following the smears back then. Then he got his hopes up when Beck mentioned it I guess, hoping that at last someone was 'going to do something about that commie organization.

They are crazy. I guess this is what made Beck ask for guidance from Ghandi or whoever he was talking about in his ramblings.

Odd that he suddenly fell ill just about when this story came out.

9. Looks like it's going to break bigger on Monday
when Media Matters releases its interview with Williams. One way for Beck to keep the MSM ignoring this story is to channel the fools off into speculating on "his illness".

Bet Monday only KO or Rachel or Ed or maybe Tweety pays attention to the tape.

5. You know what would be good for Beck?
If he had this illness and all the people prayed for him and bingo he was well...God so loved Beck that he heard the prayers of the faithful and healed him....oh the joy among the evangelicals....and the proof they needed to know that Beck is a "Man of God"
The possibilities are endless.

10. But as we all know, Beck is just an entertainer
And so any actions Mr. Williams took was totally of his own volition, and had nothing (NOTHING, I tell you!) to do with anything Fox or Beck or anyone else did. Well, except maybe for liberals, and they're used to getting blamed for violence, so it's okay.

I do like Williams' statement that his action was "because of Fox's neglect." He spells it right out there: "they go on to something else. It’s like they drop the issue and it lands on a shelf somewhere to collect dust." Williams is such a tool, he can see the way he's being manipulated, but he doesn't understand that that's what it means. Instead, he gets all "Hulk mad, Hulk smash" to teach Fox a lesson.

What a nincompoop.

11. This may be why Beck mentioned Gandhi in his latest broadcast.
Edited on Fri Oct-08-10 05:32 PM by CJCRANE
Gandhi, of course, is famous for *nonviolent* resistance.

(I sense a guilty conscience, trying to tamp things down after the fact).

13. Milbank: Beck "gave legitimacy" to the conspiracy theories of alleged California cop shooter Byron W
Glenn Beck has a friend in California.

"I would've never started watching Fox News if it wasn't for the fact that Beck was on there," says this friend, Byron Williams. "And it was the things that he did, it was the things he exposed, that blew my mind."

"I do enjoy Glenn Beck," Williams also says, "and the reason why I enjoy that is because . . . no other channel will speak about the same things that he's talking about, and if you go and investigate those things you'll find out that they're true."

Unfortunately for Beck, this satisfied viewer currently resides at the Santa Rita Jail near Oakland and stands accused of a freeway shootout with police. Williams pleaded not guilty to four counts of attempted murder of a police officer. But according to court documents, he said he had been on a mission to kill people at the liberal Tides Foundation, which happens to be a favorite Beck target.

In August, I wrote that while it's not fair to blame Beck for violence committed by his fans, he would do well to stop encouraging extremists. Now, Williams has granted a pair of jailhouse interviews, one with the conservative Examiner.com and one to be published soon by the liberal group Media Matters. These recorded exchanges, which I have reviewed, show precisely why Beck is dangerous: because his is the one voice in the mass media that validates conspiracy theories held by the unstable.
