Lab created diamonds---a very disruptive technology

Lab created diamonds, along with graphene, another carbon based technology will revolutionize technology in so many ways...medical imaging, data storage, lasers, semiconductors, energy efficiency etc....It just goes on and on....Oh, and jewelry also. I'm just surprised there arn't more companies producing them and more private investment into the concept. So far only Apollo Diamond in Boston and Gemesis Diamond in Florida are the two only main players. Some fascinating links below....

FYI...purchasing lab created diamonds for jewelry is still VERY expensive, but lab created rubies and sapphires, (the exact same chemical formula as the natural stones al2o3) are already available dirt cheap and very high quality, at
http://www.pehnec.com about $1.00 each for a stone that if made naturally, would sell for $60,000-$80,000

1. Hi Franco,
This topic might get better exposure in the Science forum (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=228), where more scientifically-minded DUers can comment on it at their leisure.

2. Poor, poor deBeers -- whatever will they do now?
I've been waiting for this technology to break them;
they're very deserving of being broken (on several
different counts).
