"Obama's Wars" (Woodward) |
|
I'm curious if other DUers have read Bob Woodward's new book? A relative bought a copy of it for me today, and I'm about to start reading it tonight.
I do not have a high opinion of the author. I'm familiar with his role in Watergate, including his experience with the Office of Naval Intelligence (and Mark Felt's pre-FBI work with ONI). His four books on the Bush-Cheney administration went from low-quality cheerleading, to abandoning old friends.
However, the last one on Bush/Cheney did have some interesting information in it. More, since Jonathan Alter's new book on President Obama provides information on the military leaders refusal to recognize Obama's civilian authority, and Woodward's new one apparently includes more details on that, I think it should be worth reading.
Any of your thoughts are appreciated.

But if I want my money to go to a whore I want to get something more than a book out of it.

Bob Woodward's interview on the Charlie Rose show earlier this week scared the bejeesus out of me regarding the military's behavior towards Obama - this includes some of the members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Real infurating, scary stuff about what they don't tell him.

I do not agree with President Obama's policy in Afghanistan. However, I recognize that he couldn't end the military occupation -- which I favor ending today -- even if he wanted to.
Those on the democratic left who are concerned about US policy in Afghanistan should read this book. I didn't finish it last night, but what I've read is unsettling.
