So, my boss today admitted that he gets his news |
|
from The Daily Show and from me. Since he's the kind who doesn't keep up with news and politics like DUers do, I was pleased that at least he's watching Jon and not Glenn. I asked him why he didn't watch any of the news cable channels. His answer is that a lot of what was said didn't make sense to him but Jon does. I asked him why he didn't watch Keith, Rachel and now Lawrence on MSNBC. His answer was he didn't want to listen to someone else's opinion, so I guess he's not ready for me to complete my conversion of him into a flaming liberal but he does have a plausible reason. His ex-wife was a Dittohead and worshipped the fat idiot. He hates him so he feels anyone with a slant or opinion is not worth listening to or watching. He realizes what a horrible racist person the Rush is.
However, I wonder how many people like him are out there? They aren't interested that much in politics, so what they do what other people do and take their news verbatim from the news sources, not even questioning that they are being propagandized. Yet, there must be some little bell ringing in their heads that tells them something is not right. So maybe they look for other sources or turn off the news altogether, but then there is Jon that many people it seems are using as their main news source.
So things may not be as dire in the world of media as it seems to be.
All I can say, is go Jon go. You are a light of reason and intelligence out there in a very stupid media world.

1. He listens to Jon Stewart because he doesn't want to listen to someone else's opinion. Okay... |

2. Satire isn't really the same thing as opinion.. |
|
And a great deal of the Daily Show is satire, much of the rest is interviews, often with people that have a great deal of power.
You could do far worse than the Daily Show for getting your news about politics.

3. I think what he's saying is that in the midst of the humor, |
|
he can tell that Jon is speaking truth.

6. We just got our ballots and he asked me to help |
|
him with his, which is why the conversation got started. He is registered as an independent, but I will get him to vote a straight Democratic ticket. I'm happy he's trusting me to help him.

5. could be worse someone at work this week said they had no opinion on the health care bill |
|
they never really heard anything about it. What planet do you live on where you missed news about the health care bill. People may have bad information, misinformation, or satirical information, but I stand in amazement on having not bother to collect any about a bill about the future of your health care.

7. I certainly go through phases where I don't like opinion. Sometimes it is nice |
|
to read or listen to someone who thinks like you....sometimes you want just the facts Mack and want to think for yourself so you stay away from opinion. Either way is okay in my book.
