moments ago.
Words escape me. Please comment.
Time to self-medicate.

Before we took the Phillipines, Puerto Rico, and Guam? Before we took the Panama canal? Before we took Hawaii? Before we took the West Coast? Before we took the Ohio area?

2. I'm glad he said it. He's right....or at least the part I heard was right to me. |
|
We were founded by anti-colonialists, I heard him say. So I think, good for Chris.
He seems to think that some of the repubs running are crazy...we could have told him that...but sometimes people have to learn things on their own...

5. Well, we have been anti-colonial when we are the colony. |
|
I think our concern about it sort of ends there.

In the 1950s especially, the US was generally encouraging the European powers to decolonize, if only for Cold War reasons, since US policy-makers sensed that resisting decolonization was pushing the colonized toward the Soviets, who offered an attractive model that encouraged the overthrow of imperialism everywhere. Generally the powers that were in the US were annoyed when the colonial powers dragged their feet and never quite understood why they didn't 'get it' and just let the colonies go.

6. The Neo-cons and Neo-liberals are the modern form of colonialism |
|
I get the founding of the 13 colonies.
But we have been colonial in 19th, 20th, and 21st Century. Violently so and dishonest and covert in in today's "media".
I have been self-medicating and reading on wiki about the Irish and the potato and American immigrataion of the Scotch-Irish and Irish Catholic related topics.
What does one rationally comprehend on foreign, economic, and domestic policy when one is well educated/read/experienced as a child of the 50s and 60s in the USA?

The chant's been "get tough get tough get tough", then when President Obama gets tough on gruesome corruption in the electoral system and suddenly he "shouldn't be talking like a pol".
Matthews is the guy Uncle Joe was talking to.
