Clarence Thomas’ Tea Partier Wife Gets Financing For ''Liberty Central''

Clarence Thomas’ Tea Partier Wife Gets Financing For “Liberty Central”: Is There A Conflict Of Interest?

Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, is a conservative activist who founded a group called Liberty Central.

It is the most partisan role ever for a spouse of a justice on the nation’s highest court, and Mrs. Thomas is just getting started. “Liberty Central will be bigger than the Tea Party movement,” she told Fox News in April, at a Tea Party rally in Atlanta.

But to some people who study judicial ethics, Mrs. Thomas’s activism is raising knotty questions, in particular about her acceptance of large, unidentified contributions for Liberty Central. She began the group in late 2009 with two gifts of $500,000 and $50,000, and because it is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit group, named for the applicable section of the federal tax code, she does not have to publicly disclose any contributors. Such tax-exempt groups are supposed to make sure that less than half of their activities are political.

1. Can you hear the howls
from the right-wing if her husband was a democrat?

This is so incredible. Just when you think this country can't sink any lower, it does. This a their recent ruling on campaign contributions it's Just Us for Sale.

2. This is just wrong.
Didn't Thomas write a book criticizing Liberals (Democrats)? So much for the impartiality of a sitting Supreme Court Justice.

3. My Mom came from Brazil
when she was 12 years old - 1924. She had an 8th grade education but, taught herself to read and write both in English and Portuguese. She worked in sweat shops where the bosses hid her in closets when truant officers came to check if child labor was employed. In her 20's and 30's she worked in various types of factories in Newark, N.J. where worked with union organizers - I believe it was the AFL before they joined up with the CIO. She was my 'Norma Rae' and a die hard FDR Democrat all her life.

She believed in this country, the rule of law and justice. Not in a naive way, she thought most politicians were crooks at heart. The USSC is what she believed in. Justice, Blindfolded Lady Justice. Until 12/12/00 - her birthday, the USSC in an instant destroyed all that. She passed away in 2004.

5. I would have liked your Mom a lot, madmax!
I know what you mean about 12/12/00. I grew up in the '40's and '50's and the Supreme Court were gods.

Not so much any more, to say the least.

The rule of law is dead in the water, imo.

Peace.

6. Likewise, I'm sure.
She was a feisty, fiery woman. I miss her much and like most of us we don't realize how much they teach us until after we have time to reflect and are facing our own mortality.

Eww, nuff of that

4. Oh please, Scarface and Slappy don't give two shits about America.
They are two of the most impartial, greedy bastards to ever sit on the court and have caused untold damage by ignoring clear conflict of interest charges in 2000. They fucked up America before George even got started.
