Brother Ink Jet Ripoff: Class action coming

Here's an update on the the Brother inkjet ripoff, namely the fact that:

a. Cartridges are declared empty when there is still ink in them.
b. You can't print anything when any of the four cartridges are declared empty.

I have now documented this in two models and comments indicate others (mine are the MFC 3820CN and the MFC 420CN). I have also found a law firm that is considering a class action law suit.

Next step to post my video of this problem and the weight readings that indicate how much ink is left when Brother says the cartridge is empty (hint is more than 5%).

2. Maybe depends on the model
I have two Brother printers at home (laser & inkjet) and one in the office and am perfectly happy with all of them.

Reading through some of the comments at the link:

Machine working 'on it's own' - cleaning duties

Running out of ink quickly - machines ship with small capacity cartridges. In models with a capilliary system, it takes a good portion of this ink to initially fill the capilliaries. After that, all is cool.

My inkjet (385c) will refuse to start a print job with low ink in any cartridge and this is a good thing. No more ink wasted on badly coloured prints. Each cartridge can be changed at any time.

Manufacturer cartridges are 18 -20 bucks each. I buy generics online for less that $6.

I'm not shilling for Brother printers. I've had a number of them over 15 years or so and have always been happy.

3. HP is no better
If I buy cartridges with the HP logo on them it will cost me 80 bucks plus the tax, two cartridges, one black and one color that has three colors in it. Anyway if I get a few hundred pages of color printing out of them I'm lucky and I'm not talking about photos either I'm talking about line drawing from AutoCad. the last off brand ink I bought cost me 15 bucks a cartridges but the color is way off. its a rip off big time. I'm thinking of buying a samsung color laser and the hell with the inkjets any more. I'd like to buy American made but I haven't been able to find any that are actually made here in the usa.

Side note, my thoughts on 'show' are not a movie.

But people showing the best they can do with what they got.

Not what you got, but how you use it, and part of that means you have to be seen, and also around people to make a difference, to share what you think is better, and also learn of other traditions.

And one more thing, If these are true for you, explain something.

For those that believe in labels.
For those that believe names are important.
For those that believe in concepts of saints

How can you think San Fransisco the city, is a bad place?

6. Random Thoughts is possibly the most aptly named poster on DU..
Every once in a while one of his/her posts come within shouting distance of the topic at hand but I think that's just random chance.
