The race in Omaha's 2nd Congressional District took a nasty turn Friday, with the campaigns trading verbal blows over a controversial television advertisement.
Advertising

In a new commercial, Democrat Tom White accuses Republican Rep. Lee Terry of being too close to Washington lobbyists. The ad refers to a New York Post article that said Terry had talked with a “comely lobbyist” at the Capitol Hill Club, a Republican hangout in Washington.

Terry responded with his own ad featuring Republican Sen. Mike Johanns of Nebraska. Johanns said White was hitting below the belt.

“Tom, leave the trash in the gutter and start talking issues,” Johanns says.

The White commercial notes that the Post quoted Terry as asking the woman, “Why did you get me so drunk?”

Terry has called the article “completely false” and “repulsive innuendo.”
