The BBC is too liberal according to NPR
Edited on Sat Oct-09-10 09:16 AM by Ichingcarpenter
I just heard an interview this morning with a BBC representative and
a reporter from NPR, sorry didn't catch his name.

He said that the US thinks the BBC news is too left whereas
NPR tries to not to force an opinion on the news.

The BBC is too pro Palestinian, then he said he is no Zionist but
the BBC gives too much credence to their view.

Then they went on to talk about the Iraq war and how
NPR and the BBC covered it.

The BBC guy said that most of the world thinks that the BBC is
too conservative especially listeners from Africa and India.

The NPR viewpoint was interesting since I think they went right wing
5 years ago.

I hope someone else listened to that interview.

It should make you think where the US media is now.

6. I hope mediamatters covers this interview

And I wish I knew who the NPR guy was
Its strange, the feed is from NY but in the early morning
in Europe all they send is the BBC then when NY catches up
they send NPR news which gives me a perspective on what
is important to the BBC and NPR.

If that was him....like I said it was a NY feed I guess you heard it or you just checked
who was on.

Anyway thanks.

I guess I need to write media matters again
I haven't in years but I think this is a story they could cover
and need to

But what do you expect when their advertisers are now the Chamber of Commerce and other conservative groups.

10. NPR would never show that story its too
REVEALING..... but that's being bias on revealing the truth.

The news I hear from NPR right now they give the Republicans
even more time than Democrats on a spokesman's viewpoint.

I counted the time.... it was 12 seconds more on the average.

Edited on Sat Oct-09-10 09:52 AM by HughMoran
I don't shut it off and scream on DU that NPR is now completely conservative.

I'll bet $1000 that 99% of those who claim it is don't even listen to it. For one thing, the BBC is part of what I listen to on NPR - lol. There are some knuckledraggers that comment there, but they are in the minority - as an actual listener I can say this with 100% certainty. If you can't stand to hear a single comment that you disagree with, then yes, NPR is 'conservative'. But don't then complain about the Republicans plugging their ears and screaming LALALA!! I'd rather hear it there in a fair environment than on corporate owned cable news.

... they won't bite the hands that feed them.

For some reason NPR reminds me of cows.

36. If you listened to my local affiliate, what you'd hear, *ROUTINELY*, is that...
...they give the Republicans actual sound quotes while "telling"
us what the Democrats said. Often, they even let the Republicans
tell us what the Democrats said.

And NPR isn't much different. And yes, as someone reported
above, NPR routinely gives proportionally more time to
Republican spokesman, story after story after story. And it
has been this way for quite a few years now.

But that suits you, doesn't it?

Tesha

16. the us media has been there for quite a few years now
NPR has creeped to the right and is now trumpeting RW copy.

Frankly I find the BBC quite refreshing. Hardly too far left however. More like firmly centrist.

33. Now Praising Republicans has been unlistenable in the main for years
Dan Schorr was the only voice ATC had worth hearing, and now he's gone.

ATC isn't everything NPR does, but it's their centerpiece. The good stuff they still do, like Fresh Air, doesn't begin to balance the badness out.

34. Well to me it was a Saturday morning news
really don't know the program, but it was news before and news after that
that made me think it was an in-depth thing.

I love fresh air but its not on NPR's headline new agenda, I have search to hear it now.

It must have been around 7 or 8 NY time when I heard it in my time zone.
So that's important.... 8 is a centerpiece, be it morning or night on the news.

My local NPR station (91.9 KVCR) plays the BBC World Service during the overnight hours, so it can't be that much of a problem for them, right?
