unhappycamper summary of this article: I think the Afghanistan clusterfuck is taking a really bad turn.

A Senate panel report tells us that the United States is paying Taliban to guard US bases in Afghanistan. This is NOT a typo.

The GAO tells us that contractor oversight in Afghanistan is sorely lacking, yet commanders on the ground have fistfuls of money to give away. And in the United States fire fighters in Tennessee let a house burn down because the owner did not 'subscribe' to the fire department.

And now the United States needs to go back in and pacify Marjah (again).

Is there anything we have done correctly in Afghanistan? Or in the Middle East? Or in Africa? Or in Latin American?

Americans occupy senior leadership positions in al-Shabaab, the Islamist insurgent group waging a brutal war in Somalia, according to U.S. Africa Command’s top intelligence officer.

We have known this for years in Somalia. I suspect some DUers would support them

What about the Afghans helping the US, are they anti-Afghanistan? Or the Iraqis, or the Somalis, or Yemenis, or the Pakistanis?

I suspect some DU members are pro-invansion and occupation with a splash of war crime cheerleader mixed in.

3. I support the Somali freedom fighters

They are not terrorists, they are freedom fighters opposing a USA-financed invasion by Ethiopians, their deadly enemy. This is a war most people in the USA do not understand, it is a war started by Mr Bush, the most evil president the USA ever had, and also the worst.

It is a very simple thing, Somalia is a failed state due to US interference in the 1990's, when the USA invaded and was defeated at the battle of Mogadishu. Now they try to use their proxies, the hated Ethiopians, and these Ethiopians are being defeated. What do you expect?

I am not American, I am from Spain. But it is naive to say Americans who fight the Ethiopian invasion in Somalia are "anti-American". Somalia is not USA territory, Ethiopia is ruled by a harsh and evil dictator, and it is not "America". This conflict is not related to Americans.

One reason why people around the world have a tendency to hate you guys is because of this type of comment you make. You are imperialists who think you should rule the planet, but you are going to be fought everywhere. On the beaches, in the streets, in the fields, and in the end, the same way you are defeated in Iraq, and will be defeated in Afghanistan, you will be defeated everywhere. And your country will be left in ruins, your economy destroyed, and the country divided and dismembered, because you are led by fools, you listen to fools and liars, and you have no idea that humanity, in the end, is not willing to be your slaves.
