The guy who wrote the following must be a DUer. If he isn't, he should be.

A Party of Refuseniks and Obstructionists

Republicans at War with America

By DON MONKERUD
CounterPunch
October 6, 2010

Under the Republican Party's new blueprint for America, BP will no longer be required to clean up the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the F.D.A. will not restrict the new diabetes drug Avandia just because it's unsafe, and donors will be required to keep their contributions to political campaigns secret.

SNIP...

Republicans would prevent the unemployed from receiving Medicaid; prevent treatment, screening or compensation for Americans who assisted during the 9/11 attacks on the WTC; eliminate extensions of unemployment insurance; allow the oil industry to write their own rules for oil exploration and clean up; open all off shore areas to oil wells; and stop funding state governments to stimulate the economy.

Senate and House Republicans recently voted to prevent bills from reaching the floor, or took positions, that would: bar homosexuals from the nation's military; allow the ash from burning 136 million tons of coal to be dumped into the nation's waterways; ignore greenhouse gases and the build up of CO2 in the atmosphere, fire tens of thousands of government employee; and drastically cut welfare, food stamps, health care for children and other government programs to aid the poor.

Long-term goals of the GOP include eliminating unemployment insurance, minimum wage laws, Social Security and Medicare, most government regulations, consumer protection laws, and federal aid to education, along with many other government programs they consider detrimental to corporate-business control of the country. Republicans that are even more radical want to make Christianity the state religion, declare war on Islam, assign the death sentence for performing an abortion, and bomb and invade Iran.

Small government, lower taxes and no regulation, mantras of the Republican Party since the Reagan era, are enshrined in new promises to "take America back". The party's so-called road map-Pledge to America-attempts to win new votes for the party and put them in control of Congress, even after their policies led to the largest economic crisis since the Great Depression.

2. The Bigot-Whisperers of the Right
Too many people, unfortunately, believe everything they see on the tee vee is true.

Thus, to protect their "positions," the superrich own and operate the mass media.

The Bigot-Whisperers of the Right

By Phil Rockstroh

EXCERPT...

In the colonial model, all the big dollars flowed back to Pennsylvania, and economic rivalry and state-codified delusions of racial entitlement vis-à-vis Jim Crow Laws were used to insure the working-class white majority rage at the ruling elite remained displaced -- their animus fixed on those with even less power and economic security than themselves.

This was the poisoned cultural milieu, wherein George Wallace's "segregation today . . . segregation tomorrow . . . segregation forever" demagogic dirt kicking caused the embedded rage of the white working class to pour forth like fire ants from a trampled bed.

In a similar manner, manufactured controversies such as the gay marriage and gays-in-the-military dust-ups of the present time have little to do with gays or marriage or the military. These issues are served as red meat to arouse the passions -- and loosen the purse strings -- of the fear-driven, status quo-enabling, confused souls residing at the center of the dark spleen of the Republican ideological base.

Although, as a rule, the Right's lies and displacements are most effective when liberals offer working people only bromides, platitudes and lectures on propriety and good taste, Obama and the Democrats, time and time again, have presented demagogues with openings the size of the cracks in Glenn Beck's gray matter.

Hence, the bigot-whisperers of the Right are provided with a void that they can seed with false narratives. They are given free rein to cloud the air and clog the airwaves with palaver about fifth columnist threats from terrorist-toady mosque builders and gays in uniform undermining morale in the ranks by belting out show tunes in foxholes and impromptu shower stall instruction on the art of hand-to-hand sodomy.

Cultures are organic in nature. Combine the elements of the scorched-earth policies of neoliberal capitalism, its austerity cuts and downsizing, plus the hybrid seeds of the consumer age -- and what alien foliage will rise from the degraded soil -- fields of right-wing astroturf.

Add: industrial strength fertilizer. And see how our garden grows, with: Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin -- the mutant seed sprouted Chia Pets of corporate oligarchy.

Seeing how we've got a captive Corporate McPravda at the megaphone, We Democrats need to pick up the mike and, as Rockstroy, peg the greedy tax-evading warmongering scum for what they are.

4. Who's paying Justice Thomas' family?
The wife of "Associate Justice" Clarence Thomas thinks war on America is a good thing.

The hag's a tea-bagger:

Who's paying Justice Thomas' family?

Posted by Max Brantley on Sat, Oct 9, 2010 at 6:43 AM

Further reporting in the New York Times today on the huge sums from anonymous sources being funneled to a right-wing political organization headed by Justice Clarence Thomas' wife.
Mrs. Thomas is the founder and head of a new nonprofit group, Liberty Central, dedicated to opposing what she characterizes as the leftist “tyranny” of President Obama and Democrats in Congress and to “protecting the core founding principles” of the nation.

It is the most partisan role ever for a spouse of a justice on the nation’s highest court, and Mrs. Thomas is just getting started. “Liberty Central will be bigger than the Tea Party movement,” she told Fox News in April, at a Tea Party rally in Atlanta.

But to some people who study judicial ethics, Mrs. Thomas’s activism is raising knotty questions, in particular about her acceptance of large, unidentified contributions for Liberty Central. She began the group in late 2009 with two gifts of $500,000 and $50,000, and because it is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit group, named for the applicable section of the federal tax code, she does not have to publicly disclose any contributors. Such tax-exempt groups are supposed to make sure that less than half of their activities are political.

... Nonprofit groups with political agendas like Liberty Central are operating in this election cycle under evolving legal and regulatory standards, most notably the ruling last January by the Supreme Court in the Citizens United case, which eased restrictions on independent campaign spending by corporations and unions. In that case, Justice Thomas, long an advocate of dismantling campaign finance restrictions, was in the 5-to-4 majority. Wealthy individuals and some corporations, emboldened by the ruling, are giving to such groups to influence the election but still hide their tracks.
