Is Meg Whitman A Whore? A Whore? A WHORE?
Posted by: Mark @ 4:57 pm

Reports have surfaced today that a member of Jerry Brown’s campaign staff inquired as to whether their opponent, Meg Whitman, could be portrayed as a “whore” due to her doling out positions in exchange for endorsements. The comment about Meg Whitman being a whore came during a voice mail that somehow continued to record after Brown thought the phone call was disconnected.

snip//

Whitman may be justified in complaining about the language used by Brown’s aide. I’m sure she doesn’t like being characterized as a whore. However, in context, the conversation showed that Whitman was indeed offering a special treat in exchange for something of value – an endorsement. It also showed Brown acting with integrity in that he was unwilling to waver in his position with regard to the union pension just to win their support.

It seems to me that if Whitman continues to harp on the slur of having been called a whore, she will only be reinforcing the notion that she is a whore. Every time her campaign complains about being called a whore the voters will be reminded that she offered up her position on union pensions for a “fee.”

Does Whitman really want to cement the notion into the public mind that she can be had for a price? Because that’s exactly what she will be doing if she prolongs this controversy over a candid campaign discussion that just happened to wonder if her being a whore could be used to their political advantage.

If I were her I would drop the whore business ASAP.
She already asked for and received an apology. The only thing she can accomplish now by pursuing it is to make sure that people continue to associate her with being a whore. And since it isn’t much of a stretch to regard any politician as a whore, it can’t possibly do her any good.

p.s. I apologize for using the word “whore” eighteen times in this article. That’s a whore lot more than I should have.

p.p.s. Make that twenty times. Although that last one may have been a typo.

1. That was my thought
NutMeg might want to think twice about making a big deal of this--does she really want to call attention to the way she's sold out to big money interests?

And that would make California . . .

Well, hopefully it will make California sensible enough to insist it has better standards.

15. What the Hell is with Brown??
Don't give a crap about the "whore" remark but what the hell is Jerry boy planning to do to the pensions out there? It sounds like the unions would be better off with the whore! I can't believe Brown (the big liberal of my era)is pitting himself against the Union. Good thing my voting booth is 3,000 miles away! Seriously, what shocked me was what Brown was talking about; not his slur.

17. ya, lets run with the "whore" thing, see how many female votes
we lose.

"the conversation showed that Whitman was indeed offering a special treat in exchange for something of value – an endorsement."

OMG, how friggin shocking, a politician acting this way, why, that's unbelievable. Lets call the bitch a whore and we will run away with this thing!!
Seems we are doing everything we can to help the GOP bastards take over.

19. I think most females can discern the difference
...between a description of Ms. Whitman's subservience to corporate interests as opposed to a suggestion that she makes her living by standing on street corners. We females are a lot smarter than you might think. :hi:

26. Isn't it sexist to think women can't tell a corporate whore then they see one?
Also, Pete Wilson likes to call people whores and he's the head or Whitman's campaign.

18. Bill Mahrer Nailed It...
He said if a person has to say "I am not", they're toast. Such as "I am not a crook" or "I did not have sex with that woman". He was referring to the New Old Christine...but it could apply to MegNut. She's attempting mightily to make it a tempest in a teapot, turn herself into some feminist hero and generate votes with poutrage that she can't buy.

Her problem is the more she pouts the weaker she'll look. Earlier I heard some talking head on the teevee claim that the use of the "w" word was just as bad as the "n" word...the usual rushpublican "moral equivelency on crack" game. The deal here is that MegNut's got nothing else...she has no issues that are resonating. She had a big jump on Gov. Brown in both establishing her credentials and policies and the polls show she's failed and falling fast. She's been exposed as a hypocrite many times over...consider this the kitchen sink (or the first part of it being thrown).

Remember, this tape supposedly sat around for 5 weeks...plenty of time for the braniacs in the Rove/Gillespie slime factory to build up the storyline and subsequent poutrage. This is all orchestrated and rather poorly, but the corporate media will continue to obsess.

:hi:

24. Is the idea here

just to create a google bomb by associating the name "Meg Whitman" with "whore".

Because if it is, I approve. :P

I mean Meg Whitman is definitely a hypocrite and a sellout. Calling her a WHORE might be a little extreme, but if the go-go boot fits...

25. Really good article - BUT we need to point out each and every time that BROWN DID NOT SAY THAT
Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 08:52 AM by karynnj
Most people are well aware of the relevant use of the word. It is not an uncommon usage - and it could be used for man or woman. It is not surprising that an aide might use the word that way in private. As such, I wonder if I'm the only one who thought of the Evita musical where she seems shocked that in Rome, she was called a whore. (Now, that was different as she once was literally a whore, but it was the first thought that passed my mind. Might be my kids listened to it in the car far too often long ago, but that was my first random association.)

Anyway, I will await the polls - it clearly seems over blown that Tom Brocaw and the republicans made such an issue of an AIDE saying this. They certainly didn't care that a Miller aide said much the same thing about Murkowski. In Miller's case it was in a CAMPAIGN RELEASED statement which makes it far worse.
