The Umpteenth Post On The Florida Senate Race |
|
I am voting for Kendrick Meek for one reason and one reason only and that is because he has a (D) after his name. He has ran a lackluster campaign and has no chance of winning. Truth be told, he was the Democratic sacrificial lamb because most of the other Democrats who were interested in the race thought Charlie Crist was a shoo in.
Charlie Crist was a shoo in until he embraced President Obama and the stimulus. You can say this and you can say that about Charlie but he has always been great on race issues and never showed a hint of prejudice. Next to Arnold no Republican officeholder treated President Obama as deferentially as Charlie Crist. He's a lifetime member of the NAACP and removed the prohibition on felons who served their time from voting; a prohibition that fell disproportionately on African Americans. Without this prohibition George Bush would not have "won" Florida and the presidency. That's why Charlie was Teabagged.
African Americans in the state might like Meek but I assure you they don't dislike Charlie. African American Democratic Representative, Terry Fields, of Jacksonville called him Florida's "first black governor".
He's everything Marco Rubio isn't. Marco Rubio is a Latin Jim DeMint. We will all rue the day he was elected.
P.S. If I knew Rubio had 1,000, 000 votes, Crist had 1,000,000 votes and Meek had 600,000 votes I would be a fool to vote for Meek and I'm no fool.

1. I read your post twice DSB... |

And, honestly with all the contradiction, I can't figure out which way you have decided to vote. But, though I see the points you are making and agree with most or all of it, I certainly am confused reading it.

I have never voted for a Republican in my life. I doubt some of the folks braying about and demanding rigorous party unity can make that claim.
The points I was trying to make were:
1) If the race was tied with Meek a distant third I would vote for Crist to stop Rubio. Any sentient person would. However, it looks like Rubio is pulling away so I might as well vote for the Democrat.
2) Crist was doing fine until he embraced Obama and the stimulus. Meek was the sacrificial lamb because the prominent Florida Democrats thought he was a shoo in.
3) Charlie Crist is good on issues of race.
4) Marco Runbio will be a disaster. He's a smarter Sarah Palin in pants with a Latino background.
