It seems too good to be true, but it is true: Celebrity archconservative Sarah Palin and flaming liberal filmmaker Michael Moore both will be in San Jose on Thursday.

If the two were to cross paths, like matter and antimatter, would they annihilate each other?

Palin, the pricey but popular public speaker from Wasilla, Alaska, will be holding forth at the Center for the Performing Arts at 3 p.m. Tickets to the forum, hosted by the conservative Liberty & Freedom Foundation, start at $25, though the choicest seats are going for $199.

Palin fans with even more cash to burn can get their picture taken with her at a VIP reception at the Marriott Hotel a few hours later for just $500. Or they can have dinner with the former governor at the Marriott for $350 a head. There's even a package deal for the reception and dinner: $1,250 (or $2,000 per couple).

Moore, the left-of-left auteur of such films as "Bowling for Columbine," commands a more blue-collar asking price of $25-$30 for his 7 p.m. appearance at the San Jose State Student Union, where he'll accept the John Steinbeck Award.

The Academy Award winner will receive the honor from Thomas Steinbeck, whose dad was the legendary author of "The Grapes of Wrath."

Palin will head on to Anaheim two days later for a Republican National Committee fundraiser with RNC chairman and fellow lightning rod Michael Steele. But the two top Republicans on the state's November ballot, Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina, won't be there to welcome Palin.
