Deficit Spending
There is so much confusion about deficit spending. The Republicans accuse the Democrats with runaway spending. Just today one of the Democratic candidates didn't know what to say when confronted about how much the President is spending. Often when I hear this, the Democrat doesn't have a rebuttal. I have a few points I use and wanted to share with you. It's not perfect but it works fairly good.

I work with and live around Republicans. So I hear it all the time. First I tell them I understand what they mean. (I really do - I understand that they are repeating talking points and that they really do not know what they are talking about.) Then I ask them how soon they will be returning their car to the bank. Before they can ask or answer, I ask them if they are still spending on putting gas in that car. They look at me funny and I asked if they still have a mortgage or a rental lease? I ask them if they are still buying groceries even though they are deficit spending? It has usually worked by now. Most people owe somebody, not all, but most. They either start asking questions or they storm off. If they are still around, I ask them what would it take for them to get ahead. Most start talking about things that would require capital cash and their need to borrow or be financed. So now we are talking about stimulus.

Feel free to expand on it. Most do not understand that we are all deficit spending when we spend money while owing to someone else. Today's life is full of deficit spending. The Republicans of the last eight years know they spent more than they should and this is their way of blowing smoke up our ass because they think we are stupid. Republican leaders also know that we will have to spend to get this country back on track. They say no continually because getting this country back on track is not their agenda. Failure of the President is their agenda. But it truly is not the agenda of most of the American people. They want this country to get better. Good luck with it.
