Tea Party

And everything associated with it. The founders. The organizers. The funders. The morons who wear the stupid fucking hats. The willfully ignorant dumbasses who take them seriously. Willful ignorance has been a time honored tradition in American politics, but now they have a home. They have a name. They proudly say "I'M CHOOSING STUPID."

But actually, "Tea Party" are not the two words I was talking about. The two words needed for the tea party to actually, amazingly, incredibly gain traction are:

The

Media

If you really want to be pissed about where we are right now in America and need one target at which to direct your ire, that would be it.

1. That is where my ire has been directed for a long time.
Liberals need to create and support their own media. When 95% of the media is owned by the rich and right you can't expect fair treatment for liberals.
Low Power FM is coming folks. Step up and start a small radio station.

10. I have DirecTV
Because i subscribe to some foreign language channels, I have to buy the full tier of non-premium channels. Given that stuff like RFDTV (a bunch of low budget C&W and gospel music shows interspersed with farm reports) can afford to be on the air, it would appear that liberal groups could afford to start their own CATV/SATV news channel to compete with Fox News.

they need support and viewers.
FSTV is on ch. 348 on directtv and ch. 9415 on DISH and various cable companies around the country.

3. Yep, all actions, protests, etc. should be at major media sites...
then maybe they'd talk about the problems...

4. I already have a target.
It's the people we vote to represent us who end up representing monied interests and throwing the rest of us to the proverbial wolves -- regardless of party affiliation.

(I got wise to that whole "pay-no-attention-to-the-man-behind-the-curtain" thing a LONG time ago.)

6. My intent is not to argue with you . . . . .
If the truth about who the represent were simply reported factually and from a trusted source, people would soon enough be sufficiently pissed off as to eventually throw the bums out.

5. You mean the people who refuse regular debate in favor of punditry?
The people who put on party spokespeople to spout talking points instead of relevant educated professionals to rationally discuss things?

The people who have the responsibility to point out that certain definitions such as "socialism" and "fiscal responsibility" are not met by those screaming them constantly?

You mean the people who would focus reporting on crap that doesn't affect my life at all instead of real issues?

I laugh hard when idiots bitch about "the liberal media" when talking about the corporate media that we blatantly possess.

9. You are correct, Stinky.....The only non-corporate sponsored TV program I know of is Democracy Now..
There may be others, but I don't know of them...

Any idea how that show got started?....Any possibility of replicating it?

Just wondering..

12. Maddow show may be "corporate sponsored," but she is one of the few who reports on this Republican
shell game. It is frustrating that there are only a handful.

17. I am an uber-fan of Rachel's. She's "the best" imo.
I'm not blaming her for corporate sponsership, it's just the way things are.

19. "it's just the way things are."
Write her or any of the nighttime lineup's hosts and ask them to pursue that as a story.

I, like you, love Rachel and am grateful that she's on. She may well be the best on TV right now. But even she will not touch that story line with a ten foot pole. Ask yourself why.

What I quoted from your post is why.

21. Oh, I know why....
I didn't mean to imply that she's completely free or that we should be content with "its just the way things are"...NO, not at all...That's why, in fact, I asked if anyone had a show which was like Democracy Now.

I was just responding to someone who seemed to think I was criticizing her.

15. Damn I am glad some one besides myself see that.
About 10 or 12 messages I posted something to that effect. I get so sick and tired of the liberal media (S**T) I could scream. I suggested that under the headers and where they usually post the weather etc. each and every newspaper should be required to list the owner and the party affiliation. And each hour on the hour all network and cable media stations should be made to post the owner and their party affiliation. That would get it across to the public that have SENSE that republican corporations own ALL THE MEDIA in this country and that they push the right wing lying side in all their programs, printed or otherwise.
