14-year-old illegal alien to be tried as adult for rape, robbery

On Friday, in Butler County, OH, Alex Ramirez, 14, appeared before Juvenile Court Judge Ronald Craft and heard that he will be tried as an adult for the alleged rape and robbery of a 64-year-old Liberty Township woman.

The victim’s family was in court for the proceeding and testified to the deterioration of the woman’s health since the particularly violent attack. They reported that she has simply lost her will to live. Barely eating and drinking.

Her son said: “All she wants to do is sit and stare out a window.”

According to detectives with the Butler County sheriff’s office, armed with a pellet rifle, Ramirez entered his victim’s home in the early morning hours of Jan. 11. He then demanded money, beat and raped the woman, finally forcing her to drive him to an ATM.

At Friday’s hearing, Dr. Kim Stookey, a forensic psychologist, described her meeting with Ramirez, and the troubling results of the tests she administered to the Mexican national.

Dr. Stookey diagnosed Ramirez as a high-risk sex offender, citing that he seems to be “fixated” on the sight of blood, even being aroused by it. She said his chances for rehabilitation are low, and gave her recommendation that his trial be moved to adult court.

We need serious immigration reform, to make sure that felons, sexual predators, people who haven't had their vaccinations, etc. are kept out, and people who just want to work can get in.

3. Rape and robbery are much more adult than a simple schoolyard

prank. Adult court rather than juvenile is appropriate.

The phrase "you buys your ticket, you takes your ride" fits here. He bought his ticket by his heinous actions against the elderly woman, not he gets to take the ride.

14 is certainly old enough to be tried and - if found guilty - punished, but I think that the court needs to e.g. take extra precautions to ensure that 14-year-olds accused of crimes aren't intimidated into making a guilty plea or not putting forwards an effective defence.

A defense lawyer is oath-bound to make sure he gets a vigorous defense. If he doesn't get one, it's grounds for appeal.

Given the nature of his crime, he's certainly a good candidate for an adult sentence. He didn't get busted with a can of spraypaint.

I hate the fact that we try kids as adults for many reasons, one being once they get to adult prison, they're already owned. The qualifying adult inmates often know they're on there way, just like a present.

I know no one wants to have him loose on the streets, me included. But how wrong would it be - assuming he is actually found guilty (innocent until proven guilty .... remember that?) - to sentence him to the maximum juvenile stretch with a mandated reevaluation at that time, with the possibility of remanding him to an adult prison?

No, in Calvinist America we go right to the death penalty (so to speak).




I am in NO WAY defending this kid if he's guilty. I am simply stating my view that if we have juvenile laws we ought to respect them. This kid is a juvenile. Period.

19. The closest thing to that

would be not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, then committed. From the information that I can find in a quick search, most states do not allow someone to be resentenced as an adult years later for the same crime without the sentence having been struck down by a court for some reason. I don't think he can be sentenced as both a juvenile and an adult, as the justice systems are pretty separate.

I don't see an issue. He was grown enough to rape, so he's grown enough to face the consequences.
