Candidate Iott says he dresses up as a Nazi to educate son
Nice try!

He's on CNN right now trying to explain this away. Says re-enactments are a great way to educate people about WWII.

'Dress up" is a peculiarly republicon pedagogical technique.

12. A lot of winger types would say yes - ever been to a church's Hell House
around Halloween? Nasty stuff...

However, I doubt even the dimmest 'bagger will fall for this education excuse - they just won't care.

then I found out he made his money owning grocery stores and I thought, Wow, he does look like a guy that would work in a grocery store. Then I found out he dressed up like a nazi and I thought, Wow he does look like a nazi.

13. He claimed that this "re-enactment" would help his son
understand the atrocities that occurred during WWII. WTF?! How does dressing up as a Nazi help one to understand the horrors that were perpetrated by the Nazis?!

20. He Claims He Admires The Wermacht...
There are some who differentiate the German Army from the Nazi party. That he wasn't wearing a Waffen SS uniform...how wonderful, eh?

I'm with others here who say if he wanted his son to get a good taste of what World War II was about, a trip to the Holocoust Museum in Washington would be a good start. But then the Wermacht isn't glorified.

It's more that he's glorifying war...to me that's child abuse.

Cheers...

23. I do feel sorry for his son
The distinctions that Iott is evidently making are much too fine and in my opinion, likely merely an excuse or justification...

War is definitely not glorious. I have lots of discussions about that with my own children.

14. WWII re-enactments carry the same historic truth
like Monty Python's re-enactment of Pearl Harbor with whistles: Absolutely none. (Well, at least Monty Python is funny.)

He likes to dress like a SS-officer and likes to act like a SS-officer, saying that he respects the tactical accomplishments they did. Interesting that he chose the 'Viking' tank division, since it was mostly built from volunteers from outside of Germany. Perhaps, if Mr. Feldwebel Idiott (sounds nice enough in German) would have been a tad younger, say 60 - 70 years younger, he would have joined.

Only out of respect for tactical accomplishments, of course. Not for anything else. I think you just lost your candidacy in Passau ...

22. Gosh, those military history reenactors
Sure are an educational bunch, aren't they? Doing a real community service to remind us what those German military guys (what were they called, again?) looked like, in all their finery, and polish, just gives ya chills to think about it.

We have our very own "military reenactor" on the city police force in Portland, captain Mark Kruger, nothing serious you understand, just a harmless hobby to enjoy the history of a certain era.
