3. Pittsburgh's NBC Station did NOT carry SNL, Chilly Billy was to popular
Edited on Mon Oct-11-10 04:29 PM by happyslug
"Chiller Theater was so popular in Pittsburgh that it kept Saturday Night Live off of its NBC affiliate WIIC in Pittsburgh for four years. Finally giving in to pressure from NBC, Chiller Theater was forced to follow SNL at 1:00 a.m.

For more on Pittsburgh "Chiller Theatre" see:

Pittsburghers who wanted to watch SNL had to turn to Channel 9 out of Stebenville (This was way before cable, but we had a good antenna). West of Pittsburgh Channel 9 came in fuzzy, but watchable.

... but our tv was in the den, directly under my parents' bedroom. I had to sit right up close to hear anything without waking them.
