Poll question: If Congress passes a bill that extends all of the Bush tax cuts what WILL Obama do?

A followup to previous poll:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=9294891&mesg_id=9294891

"If Congress passes a bill that extends all of the Bush tax cuts what SHOULD Obama do?"
82% Should veto
14% Should sign
4% Other

So now what do you think Obama WILL do. This isn't your personal view but rather what do you think will happen (regardless of if you agree or disagree).

1. your post adopts the conservative framing of "raise taxes". it's not "raising" taxes.
the original legislation was supposed to sunset; thus the act of allowing it to sunset isn't "raising" anything.

2. Framing or not for 90% of Americans if the taxes they pay go up it will be seen as "raising" taxes.

Come Jan 1 when new withholding tables take effect how many people will say:
"Damn Obama I can't believe he allowed the sunset provision of the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 to go into effect"

vs

"Shit my paycheck is $x smaller because Obama/Congress/the Demorcrats/the Government raised taxes"

I included that because I think the real world perception will weigh on Obama. Personally I think even if he is opposed to the idea he will sign it specifically because the majority of Americans will see it as a tax increase.

Still I modified the wording slightly.

3. Rather than predict Obama's choice, I'd be more interested in hearing what DUers think he should do
Hmm, maybe I will create my own poll

What is interesting is that (so far) more people Obama WILL (40%) sign the bill than think he SHOULD sign the bill (14%).

Very interesting.... Confirms what I thought.

4. I don't think he will get the chance...
The Bush taxcuts should all be allowed to expire and the money used reduce borrowing.

8. Do you think there will be 60 votes for extending some of the tax cuts
or do you think it will all simply expire?

9. Sign the bill.
Not shed a tear when the GOP takes the majority in congress.

Blame the massive deficits it will create on the GOP Congress in 2012.

Ignore the fact that our country will be irrecoverably driven into the ditch, and take satisfaction in the "I told you so."

10. I don't think he should do anything (not sign or veto it).
Edited on Mon Oct-11-10 05:10 PM by OneTenthofOnePercent
If he doesn't sign it then at least he'll be able to say he didn't support it or sign it... but it will still become law without his signature, I believe.

It's a lose-lose situation. Although I'm sure, above all else, he will NOT veto it. He'll choose to appease the moderates and centrists (and shit on progressives) since he knows moderate/centrist voters win elections and progressives are suckers who vote for whomever has a (D) next to thier name on the ballot.

How about just letting all the tax cuts expire and state to the Republicans "See I can produce balance budgets".

Personally, I veto it and tell them that I will extend the 35% rate for those who make to $500K, but in reture Congress shall create a 50% bracket for all income and capital gains over $1,000,000 (that is indexed by inflation).
