Same technology used to track cattle

Published : Monday, 11 Oct 2010, 12:38 PM EDT

HOUSTON (AP) - A couple of school districts in the Houston area have begun monitoring students whereabouts on campus by issuing them identification badges with radio frequency identification technology - the same technology used to track cattle.

The Spring school district in Houston has issued the ID badges to about 13,500 of its 36,000 students since December 2008.

The Santa Fe school district , about 30 miles south of Houston , began issuing the badges this year.

School officials said the devices improve security and increase attendance rates.

The American Civil Liberties Union successfully fought the introduction of these ID badges in California in 2005.

2. This is what the oligarchy would love: To be able to sit down and track anyone they want
where ever they might be in the nation. Blackmail, bribes, secrets. All owned and controlled by them.

3. Hmm...sort of like what lots of businesses do with
their employees, so they know where everyone is. For security reasons, I guess.

Where's Bill Jensen?
Just a sec...he's in the warehouse right now.
Could you page him for me?
Sure. You want to talk to him?
Yeah.
No problem.

5. Yeah, and damn near everything in WalMart has an RFID chip in it now.
Their major suppliers were supposed to comply with the requirement by the end of 2007 (most didn't make it). They CLAIM it is for inventory purposes, but the damn things aren't disabled at the checkout and can be read when you enter the store for "personalized" ads. Think "Minority Report". Oh, and yes, they are immune to damage from the washer and dryer.
