On the road with DemoTex (DIAL-UP WARNING): What was on THIS pilot's mind?

What was on this guys mind?

Ruh-Roh! (Southwest Nevada on US-95)

The red building above the tail of this derelict Beech 18 is, I presume, the whorehouse. I had to make a quick getaway when a pimp on a tractor headed my way. NEVER TAKE PHOTOS NEAR A WHOREHOUSE WITHOUT A QUICK GETAWAY AVAILABLE!

Hoover Dam today (Monday 10/11)

I love a farmer that digs Faulkner!

Goose Lake on the Cali-Oregon border

And my favorite:

Walker Lake, Nevada

1. Cool! I've driven a tractor trailer across Hoover dam. Can't do that anymore.

The lake looks like it is down considerably. That is a fascinating structure.

How far along is the bridge they're building just downriver?

Drive safe, Tex. Have a good journey home.

Oh,....and the pilot was clearly looking to get laid! Why else would he crash it there?

6. The bridge looks almost ready to open!
FANTASTIC! It took me an hour to do two miles over the Hoover Dam today.

2. I've seen most of the scenes you posted.
It's a strange surreal world out there - especially on the side roads.

3. My dear DemoTex!
Hey, I love it! You going to do a travelogue? These are great pics, no major surprise!

Lake Mead is waaay down, and that's scary.

I don't get the reference to Faulkner and the barn. What's up with that?

Safe travels!

:hi:

7. There is a lot of barn burning in Faulkner.
Edited on Tue Oct-12-10 12:31 AM by DemoTex
Barn burning is a big thing in Southern Gothic literature. Arson is often the theme in literature, but green hay is usually the culprit (spontaneous combustion). I posted a photo of a burning barn near Ft. Rock a few weeks ago.

8. Thanks!
I must have missed the earlier pic...

And I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't read much Faulkner...

10. Here ya' go (from my Journal entry of 9/8/2010)

Day three of a barn fire in Ft. Rock Valley that started on 9/6/2010 (spontaneous combustion - damp hay).

Read "Light in August."

The barn fire actually put up smoke for a week.

4. I love Walker Lake.
My wife took this picture of the lake from the back of my Harley on our way to Boise from So. Cal. On a side note, there's a casino in Hawthorne called El Capitan. I won $5,000 playing dollar slots there a few years ago.

Great lake. Nice pinks and blues in that photo. I had some harsh light and was shooting into the sun - bummer!

13. Hope he lived to meet one of Angel's Ladies.
Thank you for all the great photos this year, DemoTex. I have a folder with your
name on it in my good photo bin.

Have been tempted to hop in the car and bring you some good wine from over here
in the valley. Maybe next summer.

Cheers ~

I went to a b'day party in Bend Saturday night. We had, and discussed, some Willamette Valley wines. The Bergströms blew me away!

BTW: I think the crashed Beech 18 was there before the brothel. I saw the aircraft there last year, but I could not stop for a photo. I also saw the orange balls on power lines. I assumed it was an old, over-grown airport. I did not see the whorehouse sign last year, and really did not notice it today until I got out of my truck to photograph the Twin Beech.
