The "Worst State Legislator in America" Contest is Now Open!
Rules of the contest:

1. It has to be a STATE legislator--one that serves in your statehouse, not at the local or national levels. No entering Michelle Bachmann or John Boehner.
2. It should, preferably, be your own legislator.
3. It doesn't necessarily have to be a Republican, but it probably will be.
4. Anyone named Bush is forever disqualified.

Let me start by entering my own state legislator, Phil Hart (R-obviously) of Athol, Idaho.

http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2010/oct/10/rep-hart-logged-state-land-for-home/

Atrocities:
1. Decided income tax was unconstitutional even though he's on the state tax commission. Owes the local, state and federal governments somewhere around a million dollars in back taxes, fees, fines and other assorted costs.
2. Decided he wanted a log house, so he sent someone onto state land (there are state lands in Idaho where the money from any timber harvested goes to the school system; this is where Hart went) to cut down enough trees to build a whole house--without either telling anyone or paying for them.

Win fabulous prizes:
a. My sincere condolences
b. A donor star

What we'll do: Send in your atrocious legislators from now until Friday at 5pm. (PM me with your tales of woe, as well as putting them in this thread; I'll be in and out for the next three days.) On Saturday I'll put up a poll and let everyone here pick the loser...err, winner. The final announcement will be made on Sunday night.

Good luck, and I'm sorry for your bad leaders...

4. My state rep jumped ship from Dem to Rep.
Which means he's not really a Democrat. That means that I have a

Repub state rep (Chuck Hopson of Jacksonville).
Repub state senator (Nichols?-not sure)
Repub governor (Goodhair)
Repub senator (Cornhole)
Repub senator (Breck Girl Hutchison),

NONE of which represent my positions.

Texas Monthly has a "Furniture Award" for the most useless people in the Legislature.

Can I post the Congresscritter version of "Worst Rep" and tell you my rep is JOE BARTON???

:wtf: The one that thinks global warming is a giant hoax, and apologized to BP for having hearings???

6. If you can top Oklahoma's Sally Kern I pity you
Edited on Tue Oct-12-10 08:05 AM by CBGLuthier
In March 2008, Kern made national headlines when she stated:

Studies show that no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than, you know, a few decades. So it's the death knell of this country. I honestly think it's the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam — which I think is a big threat, okay? Cause what's happening now is they are going after, in schools, two-year olds...And this stuff is deadly, and it's spreading, and it will destroy our young people, it will destroy this nation.

And another gem of pure logic

"Granting marriage status to homosexuals who comprise little more than 3 percent of the population would be like granting all applicants admission to a prestigious college just because a few meet the qualifications. That school’s status would fall. Likewise, the status of marriage will fall if same-sex marriage is legalized."

I live less than a mile from the district she represents.

7. Thank you for giving me this opportunity- Rep Jay Ramras of Alaska

Alaskans are being gauged on gas for I dunno...forever....so citizens finally demanded that someone answer as to why.

Gas prices are $1 or more than the lower 48(and we have all the oil) and this affects the cost of living big time! Food is outrageous, building supplies etc. We had people in the Bush starving the last few years because the cost of fuel and food is so high.

So look at what this jackass comes up with (after spending all kinds of $$ on the 'report')

He bases his findings that we are not being gauged on his INTUITION!!

And absolutely nothing has been done since. There is no reason Alaskan's should be subsidizing the jet fuel market, it is just stupid. And you all think your food prices are high in the lower 48??!!!

Report says regulating gas prices not very wise
http://www.adn.com/2009/02/02/676924/report-says-regulating-gas-prices.html
"JUNEAU -- A state legislative investigation has failed to answer definitively why Alaskans pay such high gas prices at the pump, but the report released Monday suggests the key lies in Alaska's in-state refineries' efforts to compete in a global jet fuel market.

The 54-page House Judiciary Committee report also warns that any attempt to regulate consumer gas prices risks driving the refineries out of business and severely impacting Alaska's economy.

Committee Chairman Jay Ramras, R-Fairbanks, said the committee's findings are based on intuition after spending four months researching and gathering testimony on the issue.

"It seems that in order for refineries to maintain their competitive position in the global jet aviation market, they have to shift costs on to a much smaller more fragile consumer retail gasoline market," Ramras said.

"We don't think there's any illegal activity going on. We think it has to do with two very distinct marketplaces," he said."
