AP - "Rand Paul: Medicaid Has Turned Into Welfare"
Edited on Tue Oct-12-10 11:19 AM by TomCADem
It is interesting that Rand Paul is winning with a message in which throws major parts of his constituency under the bus. If he were a Democrat, the media would be ripping him to shreds for his extremism. But, as a Republican, he is a harmless example of grass roots Tea Party support, but please ignore the 24/7 media coverage from Fox News.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul told a business group Monday that Medicaid has turned into "intergenerational welfare," saying that coverage has spread well beyond those truly in need.

* * *

"Half of the people in Kentucky are not poor," he said. "We've made it too easy. And people are going to say, 'Oh, that's harsh, you can't say that.' Well, let's take care of those who are truly in need, which would be a small percentage of the public. Let's take care of them until they can take care of themselves.

"Let's not have intergenerational welfare, and that's what's been going on and that's a large part of this problem."

Kentucky has about 57,000 births per year, and Medicaid covers about half of them, according to Gwenda Bond, a spokeswoman for the state Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

3. Doesn't it state in that Constitution he loves so dearly that the role
of Government is to maintain the General Welfare of the nation....He insinuates that maintaining the welfare of the people is a bad thing...He needs to make up his mind, either the Constitution is good or it isn't..

4. The tea baggers think general welfare means business gets help while all others have to pull
themselves up by their boot straps. Cause GB told them that well known fact.

6. C'mon Rand, completely do yourself in and say the same of Medicare.
You know you want to.

Like Medicaid recipients, most Medicare recipients take out more than they put in. Doesn't that just twist your Libertarian panties into a bunch?

8. Uh, therefore half the people in Kentucky ARE poor...
HALF Rand. 50% of the people in Kentucky are poor, based on your statement. About half of new babies are born into Medicaid level poverty.

A huge percentage of the land in Kentucky is "Deliverance banjo scene" poor. A friend used to volunteer with these folks, and many of them didn't even know basic hygiene like brushing their teeth.

I think the system has failed them, Rand old boy.

12. Again we see the "poverty = unable to brush teeth" idea crop up...
You do realize that's right-wing planted, right?

If those folks don't know how to brush their teeth, it's due to cultural factors much more than their financial situation.

15. Also to a lack of fluoride in well water.
Many of the poor in Appalachia are not hooked up to municipal water systems.

11. Acting a Great Program because it Helps People
so they won't become destitute and turn to crime. But hey... mr. pasty sociopath doesn't give a fuck so we all must hate Medicaid. Too bad he doesn't have balls to tell folks why he really dislikes Medicaid. None of them ever have the nads to be honest...
