Before you defend this candidate "reenactment" thing consider this |

The website, while posting a disclaimer" cleans up the image of this unit. They leave out that they were part of the rounding up Jews, torturing them and then killing them. The unit was one of the most horrible ones and yet they clean it up to make them look normal, so one must question what they really are trying to do. For this guy to claim it is just historical is not too believable, but more like a KKK group trying to water down Jim Crow.

3. yes there was a thread but in their defense |

they seem to be unaware of the group's philosphy. They were saying that to re-enact you have to have both sides which is true, but there in lies the problem, one side of the story is left out and makes the Wikings look far better than they should. The posters didn't seem to know of this and hopefully they are now aware of it.

10. I ran into it - holy shit. |

Even when confronted with the nazi-revisionist nature of the 'wikings', and the obvious nazi sympathies of that teabag nutcase, the defense of this asshattery persists. The particular defender is no surprise.

5. Same Reason Why Some Spread Outright Lies About Democrats On This Board... |
|
You see folks insist on treating right wingers fairly, giving Republicans a free pass, while reciting and spamming the latest talking points against Democrats.
Think Rand Paul staffer.

4. Aren't 're-enactors' generally re-enacting actual events? Did the SS invade Ohio at some point? |

I don't recall Mr. I(di)ott saying he went to Europe for these 'bonding experiences' with his son.

6. I don't get the whole reenactment thing |
|
but that is ok. I know quiet a few people who do SCA or medieval reenacting here in Colorado. We go to the Renn faire every year. I enjoy history. But why would anyone want to dress up as a NAZI? Yeah, ok. I understand that some people say that you have to have both sides to do a reenactment. I've seen a Civil War reenactment in Tenn. and agree that you'd need both the USA and the CSA to make it make sense. But I just don't get dressing up as a NAZI and going to a dinner party with a bunch of other people dressed up as NAZIs. I've heard the defense that not all members of the German Army during WWII were NAZIs. However, the guy wasn't doing a German Army unit- he was doing an SS unit! I just don't get it.

read the replies and you can see while well intentioned seems some don't know the whole story. I felt it was needed to bring this part out. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4572061
