Rand Paul would replace income tax with sales tax
Calls federal tax code "a disaster," proposes getting rid of Internal Revenue Service
By Associated Press

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul of Kentucky says the federal tax code is a "disaster," and he wants to replace the income tax with a retail sales tax.

Paul said Tuesday that he would support changing the federal tax code to get rid of the Internal Revenue Service and the federal income tax.

The sales tax proposal is being championed by the Texas-based advocacy group Americans for Fair Taxation and a newly formed affiliate, FairTax America Support Team. Paul's former campaign manager, David Adams, is a member of the affiliate's governing board.

Paul faces Democrat Jack Conway in one of the most closely watched races in the nation. They're seeking to replace 78-year-old Sen. Jim Bunning who opted not to seek a third term.

1. ... what about a 'fair use tax' for corporations that pollute and destroy
... the environment, natural resources and labor resources, and who don't produce anything of value to the world (I'm thinking Wal- Mart here) ....

3. All Conway has to do is tell people what they'd pay for a loaf of bread
or a new car with a 30% sales tax on top of it.

A national sales tax is the quickest way I know to kill the economy stone dead.

6. Works out great for those paying >30% right now (wink wink).
That is the whole point. Sales tax is money just like income tax. Either way it is getting paid.
However for each system there are relatively winners and losers.

Pretty easy to figure that out but then again most Republicans support lowering taxes of the rich when 99% of them will never be rich so try figuring that one out.

8. OR medical / dental visits...especially for the uninsured / under-insured who pay out of pocket
The clueless minions who high-five "the death of the IRS" fail to notice the fact that services would be taxed as well. Also, abolishing the IRS simply means setting up another bureaucratic organization in its place, because tax collection isn't going to regulate itself.

9. even if he does, he is one very junior voice among 100
his opponent should just remind people that when taxes go away or down, FEES & SURCHARGES go UP

16. One "junior voice" who can apply a secret hold on any legislation.
And thereby hold the entire government hostage to his whims.

Do not underestimate the power of an American Senator. The senior chamber of the people's government is no place for a nutbar like Rand Paul. THAT is the message Jack Conway has to get to the people of Kentucky; Rand Paul is too dangerously ideological for the United States Senate.

11. The Hair Club for Men™ bloc will be speaking with their ballots
He's 5 points up on Conway, looking pretty dismal for integrated lunch counters in Kentucky. :(

14. A consumption tax like the one that eroded Japan's economy?
If he can find cite a real life example where a national sales tax worked out to the benefit of all inhabitants of any country in this world, then I will support his idea. Until then, it is a crackpot theory that should not be taken seriously.

15. I decided to see just how "easy" it is to get Medicaid in Kentucky & found these income charts
Federal Poverty Guidelines

Size of Family Unit Poverty Guideline (annual income)
1 $10,830
2 $14,570
3 $18,310
4 $22,050

Kentucky Income limits for Medicaid

Category Income eligibility (as percent of federal poverty level)

Infant 0-1 185%
Child 1-19 150%
Non-Working parents 36%
Working parents 62%
Pregnant woman 185%
Medically needy
Individual 30%
Couple 28%

It's so easy you hardly have to have any money at all to qualify. :sarcasm:
