Pop psychologist on CNN: "They are miners because of good upbringing"
Just watched Larry King as much as I could stand. The end came when Larry asked some pop psychologist why some people become miners. The idiot answered "Because of good upbringing and character, Larry". In a sense he's right. I suspect most took that crappy, dangerous job to feed their families. That DOES take good character. But I don't think parents sit around dreaming of their kids becoming miners.

6. Desperation and lack of options.
That's why most anyone goes into a job that's backbreaking and is likely to kill you by either accident or black lung. There's a good reason why every coal mining region in America is poor. The coal industry likes a pool of desperate job seekers with no other options.
