Morn the Loss of Civility
I Morn the Loss of Civility. I've been interested more and more in the observation and discussion on the loss of civility in our society.

Today I witnessed the reason we morn: watching what passes as a news program, CNBC. While interviewing Dick Armey: he called USA political leaders a GANG. Why didn't they just stop the discussion and say: Dick, as much as you are revered, you should re-state your description of our respected leaders.

There is no apparent interest in stopping those that use language to harm and hurt, calling them out, to stop!

There was a time when we relied on us, the people as journalist to be the truth police, to fact check, to hold feet to fire. I Morn because that 4th branch of our society is dead.

8. I think the fourth branch has become the propaganda branch of the
Republican party. They sold out during the Bush Era. They haven't fact checked or held Republicans accountable since the OJ trial.

19. I agree with you, civility has taken some major hits in our society.
I also believe arrogance to be a major corrosive dynamic leading to this loss of civility, some people either know more than others or they think they know more, but in either case it's no excuse for arrogance.

Thanks for the thread, ragrum

22. I wouldn't be so quick to thank the author of the OP
Thinking a new member might be unfamiliar with the editing option, I tried to be helpful. But the Oper disappeared after posting, and the obvious misspelling--which could have been fixed--was never corrected.

Instead, we had a drive-by post. Why? we might wonder. Was it merely to plant a distraction and keep us spinning our wheels instead of doing something more productive? That seems to me a very good question. Perhaps one worth putting to the mods.

I kicked the thread for its amusement value, but I realize now that that was a mistake. I believe anyone who has participated in the thread would be justified in feeling used by a poster who does not have DU interests at heart.

I'm sorry, Uncle Joe, but the disappearance of the poster doesn't put a good light on this.

23. You may be correct, it may have just been a game.
On the other hand maybe something happened to take the OP away from the thread, or he was embarrassed after the first few posts and logged off, but he's not new, having been a member since 2005.

Peace to you, pinboy.

24. That's always possible, but I can't help smelling a rat
I'd be happy o be proved wrong. The sentiments seemed to be sincere, but the OPer's abandonment of the thread is highly suspicious, as are the obvious, uncorrected misspellings. But hey, I'm not the boss of DU. :) In cases like this, I let our mods sort it out.

Love & Peace to you, too, Uncle Joe.

25. Crazy how people see ghosts
Okies, I posted with a mistake. Sorry. FYI: I am 57 white male, democrat and liberal financial support Obama and my local NC candidates. Also not to be deterred by innuendo. Also FYI: the edit feature times out so unless I were to think my post so important to hover I’d expect there might be future errors.
